Yes, birds can get just as cold as we do. their trick is their multiple types of feathers. Semiplumes are the ones that most help them to keep warm. they have long shafts and fluffy vanes that trap heat. they also have fluffy down feathers for the same purpose. their outer feathers help shed rain, which keep their fluffy inner feathers dry and effective. if you have a bird, or watched them often, you'll, have noticed how when content on a perch or wire, and ready to sleep, they seem really fat. this is because the fluff out all their feathers to create more pockets where warm air can be trapped. if you have a bird and ask because it is now winter, it would be a good idea to move the cage away from any windows or doors to the outside (drafts) birds easily get respiratory infections. i don't know if they are much good, but they sell little cozy nest things for birds to keep warm. also try covering the Cage with a heavy blanket at night, it might help a Little.

Yes they do, just like humans. Their feathers help to keep them warm. They have down feathers inside, that are really fluffy and ward. If they're cold, they will fluff up to keep the heat near their body. If they are hot, they will keep their feathers very close to them and make them look really skinny.

Yes,but feathers are their insulation from the elements. If you have a down comforter you'll know how incredibly well-insulating down and feathers can be!

I wonder about that to. I see them on the electric lines at the stop lights and there will be about 20 of them sitting there in the wind and cold. It seems like they would be hiding out. :o)

absolutely, no doubt about it.... think about it, most birds originate from tropical climates (i.e.-- S. America) i've had pet birds & any vet, breeder, etc. will stress the point "do NOT put pet birds near drafty areas, it can make them sick & they could possibly die, feathers help, but they're not exactly a nice fur coat...
