I adopted a full grown cat about 6 months ago from a good friend ....and I've noticed she drools .....she was mauled by a dog and has a persistant crook in her neck ..not real noticable unless you pay close attiontion...i was just wondering if anyone elses cat drools or maybe this was caused by her mauling...her pervious owner noticed too but she had never seen it in all her cat rescue...

Some cats just do it. My persian drools a lot when he is purring and happy. It is really gross when he slings slobber everywhere, but some cats do it because their teeth are bad as well so I would check her teeth and if they are good then just wear rain gear when shes around :)

One of my male male Maine Coons drools when he's really happy, especially when he's kneading in my lap. His brother sometimes does the same.
Otherwise, cats can drool when they have oral problems, be it tooth problems, growths or infections. Given that she has a crook in her neck, it may be a neurological issue. You know she was mauled at some point and it doesn't sound like she's every been looked at by a vet for it. It would be prudent to have it checked out, just in case.

Drooling can occur for a number of reasons in cats. Probably the most commonly identified reasons are gum or teeth disorders. Oral ulcers can sometimes cause excessive salivation. Problems that lead to nausea, such as renal failure or gastrointestinal disease also cause excessive salivation. Some cats salivate excessively when they are nervous or stressed. This is a common reaction to oral medications and application of flea control products, too. Your vet can help sort through these possibilities and hopefully find a treatable cause.

No, it's not extremely unusual... my cat drools as a matter of fact... she has since i first got her, which was when she was about six weeks old, and I'm positive that she is perfectly healthy. If this is the only concern you have with your cats behavior/habits, I wouldn't be too worried. It isn't a major deal. I hope I helped!

I know that some cats drool as a sign of contentment. Kittens drool when they're nursing from their mothers, and sometimes it carries over to when they're adults, too.
Does she also knead with her front paws? That's another thing kittens do to their mom's to stimulate the milk flow.
