You can try checking out the robotics website. They have multiple kits for building robots. It may have what you are looking for.

Listen to me .. i am a computer teacher an i am a supervisor for the Robots club at our school .. we r using the lego kit .. it's really simple .. and it should come with some sort of a manual that would start u up .. u will be doing robots in the first month .. so go for it .. good luck
