You cannot change the original manufacturers Keyless Entry code.
However you can ADD and//or change an alternate code

To do so you must:
first enter the original code (5 digit)
then (within 5 seconds) enter (or press) the # 1
then (again within 5 sec. of one another) enter your NEW alternate code (must be 5 digits)

You now will have 2 working codes.
If you disconnect (or accidentally kill) your battery, it won't remember your alternate code & you'll have to reset it.

These directions can be found on the back of the keyless entry card that came with the vehicle & also in the owners manual.

If you don't have an owners manual, you can usually download one (FREE) from Fords website (1996 & newer models)

Lastly, if you don't have the original manufacturer keyless entry code for your vehicle........well that's a whole new question....

you have to enter the original factory set code imediatly followed by your new code. Thats how my 93 cougar worked, don't know what year your t-bird is but it should be the same.
