Please Help...I have an old Panasonic Handycam (crica 1990) and I was trying to make home movies for my family for christmas. The only problem is that the video camera will not play the movies properly. The picture is all wavy and black and white but the sound is perfect. Can someone please please please help me ASAP as I don't want to loose these memories and I would really love to give them as a gift. How can I play them? What do I need to buy?

If it is a Panasonic it is a VHS-C camcorder which is the same as VHS tape but in a smaller cartridge. Those cameras had a short life expectancy but the tape is probably fine. That cartridge goes into an adaptor that allows it to be played in a standard VHS player. Once you get that handled I would recommend transfering those to DVD so you don't lose them forever. Make copies for the whole family as gifts.

Panasonic was one of the biggest proponents of the VHS-C format during that time. Which means you'll be able to use a normal VCR instead of the camera for playback. Even better, if you know someone with an SVHS VCR then I'd recommend that as your transfer device. They've got much better filtering, audio and tracking capabilities. Then it's just a simple matter of getting the video at it's highest quality onto your computer and finally something like a DVD.

If the movies are really important to you, which it sounds like they are, you should talk to a professional about it. Call a camera shop. It might be a little spendy but the past will never happen again.
