I dont have a amazon, but i can recommend a very well balanced pellet food. Just keep in mind there is not complete balanced bird food out there, and you will need to supplement your birds diet with fresh veggies and fruits, such as kale/sweet potatoes/ carrots ect.. I personally like Laferbers brand and roundybush brand the best, they cost a bit more but if you are purchasing in bulk online it is more cost effective than in store purchases. Beware of certain brands that pack tons of sugars in there pellets, ex. zupreem fruit blends. As per seeds, all birds will need some in there diet, but in moderation. I find that having two seperate dishes helps with my two conures, the laferbers pellets are in one dish and a seed mix in the other so i can monitor how much they are eating of both and adjust levels. Alot of brands have the pellets and seeds mixed together and you dont have a clue what your bird is really eating and what the portions are. good luck

My double yellow head died a couple of years ago from a stroke...He was around 50 years old. He was mainly raised on a sunflower seed mixture before I got him in 1981. I had to slowly get him off of that and get him on a pelleted feed. There are some really good ones out there. One is called Harrison's and there is also Zoopreen and there are many others as well. Try to stay away from seeds if at all possible. You can feed your bird anything that you would eat. They love to crack open chicken bones to get to the marrow. They also like fruit such as apples and bananas, grapes etc. Vegetables are good as well and you can either get frozen mixed vegetables and nuke them in the microwave for a few seconds and then feed them or feed it fresh veggies from the market.
They need a variety of food to stay healthy. Birds are like people and can be very stubborned if not given a variety and they are very hard to convert once they get set in their ways. It took me two years to get my old double yellow head off of sunflower seeds. I could never get him entirely off of a seed diet because if I took them away he would not eat anything I gave him until I gave them back to him. It is good for them to be on a commerical diet though because the high quality ones are well balanced and have the necessary vitamins to keep them healthy.
So variety,variety,variety!!!!

Amazons have a tendency to get fatty liver syndrome from seeds-after over 25 years of pet and breeding birds-I settled on Kaytee Exact extruded diet-but don`t switch over cold turkey. Vegetables and small amounts of fruit should be included, also

i take it it has nt got 2 heads literally,,,so here goes. we had a blue fronted amazon some years ago, and we never strayed from the breeders diet plan..find your local health shop@get black eyed peas, chick peas,lentils..mix together in a container. take out enough for 2 days soak overnight in water, rinse then boil 4 20mins.rinse in cold water then feed. the rest kept in fridge 4 nxt day.repeat so u dont run out? still provide dry parrot food+veg.etc. nuts only as a treat as they add health problems!
