What this means, is that God didn't literally say "Be" in English. Rather he only willed it to be and it was. Just think of our planet and how little it is in whole scope of things, in terms of galaxies and our concept of Universe. The Universe it self could be just a small element of what we have yet to comprehend!

The biblical record is that Mary was overshadowed by the Holy Spirit. How he imparted the other half set of chromosomes is not revealed.
