It annoys me more when it's someone over the age of 10. Chewing gum is bad enough by itself, but advertising it to the world is just plain rude. I'm normally not a violent person, but someone who's snapping their gum in my presence runs the risk of getting smacked!

I find it very annoying and distracting. Apparently I'm not alone. I didn't choose to be this way, it's simply how I am. I have tried SO HARD to change. I can't. I'm sensitive to sounds. It's like a handicap at times, because the sounds trigger anxiety.
That said, why do people want to continue to self-gratify (which is what gum chewing/popping is, just a fun thing that someone does for their own pleasure) in public when they know that many of their fellow humans find it annoying and distracting?
This is what makes it rude and self-centered. Not caring--or denying--that you're hurting or bothering another human being.
But heck, if it takes laws to stop people from smoking in public, I think the gum is here to stay for a while.

annoying but I thought only little kids do it, just for the fun of it. An adult doing it in front of your face is going a bit too far, isn't it? But you know what? on my side of the universe gum is not available from the stores. Is this good or not? At first, there was a lot of resistance, but people are now seeing the reasons/ logic behind this ban and are almost totally for it.

Yes, but look what an example Brittany Spears is setting. She chewed like a cow thru her interview on tv. What has happened to public manners?. When I was in school, chewing gum was a big no no, so I learned early how rude it is to chew and pop. I like to chew bubble gum when I am driving on a long trip, but no one sees it but me.

I am such a gum chewer, I chew "Orbit" bubble gum & I love to blow bubbles, but one time I caught myself in church blowing and then it popped really loud - embarassing since I'm the Mom. And yes, I pop it a lot, doesn't bother me if someone is enjoying their gum.....should there be a law or something? :)

Oh my goodness yes! It is like someone gritting their teeth, or sneezing/ caughing without covering their mouth! Gum poppers should be punished somehow. If they can outlaw smoking in bars they should outlaw popping of gum!

Annoyed is putting it mildly.
That gum snapping is MEANT to annoy.
Look at the person doing it....
and their demeanor.
And you will agree.
