My dog got sprayed by a skunk, because he got mad, and went to bite the skunk's butt! And, the f**king smell, is so da** dumb. What should I do?
Thanks, and pardon my language. My house is big, it's too strong.

Put the dog down...

Or, I guess you could just get some electronic hair clippers, cut off 1/3 of the length of hair, then bathe your dog in tomato sauce (IF your dog needs it after you clip off the hair, he/she might not after the buzz cut)...

Okay, I'm almost an expert at this one, too. With three Great Danes and a family of skunks living on my ranch, I've had lots of experience with this subject.

The best, fastest, and cheapest thing I know of is apple cider vinegar! (I buy it by the gallon at Wal-Mart.) Put some in a spray bottle and just spray the dog as soon as you notice he's been sprayed. If he's in the house by the time you notice it, pour some in an open bowl or jar and just sit it in a room where the dog has been. Within 20 minutes, the room no longer smells and the results on the dog are almost instant. I just spray the dogs, brush or rub the vinegar in and let them in the house. I don't dry them off, or even rinse it off. By the time they dry, the smell is gone. During the summer months, I kept a jar of vinegar on top of my male's crate covered with press & seal wrap. When the dogs brought the skunk smell in the house, I just took the cover off the jar for 20 minutes, then put it back on. That really is about all the time it takes to get the smell out of the house. If it's a really big house, put an open container in several rooms at the same time.

I read that the tomato juice doesn't really get rid of the smell, in the time it takes to get it on the dog, you become desensitized to the smell. I've tried it and it didn't work on my dogs. I've also tried baking soda and peroxide and it didn't work on them, either. I've even tried the Dawn dishwashing liquid. While it's great at killing fleas, it didn't do a whole lot to get rid of the skunk smell when I used it. Apple cider vinegar never failed for me.

ok this is going to sound really strange....
i read in a dog book that you can wash the dog with a douche if it gets sprayed by a skunk and so when my dog was thats what i did.... it works!!!!! put the stuff in a spray bottle and mix it with some water-- i dont really think it matters much how strong it is-- spray it on the dog where he was sprayed and leave it for a few minutes like 10 then rub it in really well. rinse it all out and you wont believe your....nose... make sure you get all of it. my biggest mistake is that his collar got sprayed too and i didnt take it off. make sure you get every thing and you might have to do it a few times. make sure you let it sit for awhile too if you rinse it out right away it will not work.
hope your dog was vaccinated for rabies!!
good luck!!

The same thing happened to my cat. The smell was sickening! I poured tomato juice over him and sprayed the house with an odor neutralizer. It will take a few weeks, but the smell will go away. My very blunt sister doesn't smell skunk at all when she visits, and she would definitely say something. Stressful, but it will pass!!

Chetco is right. My old dog could never learn his lesson. Skunk after skunk after skunk. He was part Chow so you could imagine the thick coat he had. One time he got skunked we bathed him right away (about 11pm) and when we finished he got skunked again...still soaking wet, he found the same d*mn skunk, not 5 minutes after we finished bathing him!

We tried everything. One thing that people didn't mention about the tomato juice...you have to let it DRY completely before rinsing it out. Even then it's not very efffective.

Try the peroxide/baking soda/dish soap recipet hat Chetco gave you. It worked for us.

Use the mix of the dish soap, baking soda and peroxide that several people listed here. Don't embarrass yourself like I did using the "douche" method.

I just had a foster dog that was skunked and was told by the vet to use the douche method. It did not work, and I looked like I had a horrible women's disease for buying all that stuff. We used the soap mixture, and left it on for about 10 minutes and she smelled wonderful! IT WORKS!!!!

Aye, what the individuals above stated. i do no longer think of they captured the severity of the skunk spray chemical even with the undeniable fact that. in case you certainly get an instant hit it is not merely the main overwhelming scent you will in all possibility ever journey, it additionally has a distinct style, it somewhat is like each and every thing on your physique and on your mouth and throat are completely lined with the stuff (via employing proximity). you will in all possibility no longer style or scent the rest for the 1st day or so. And merely your mom's in all possibility going to get close to you, there's no thank you to have a sensible artwork/college/social dating in the process the era of the time it takes to bathe off. The scent isn't undesirable even with the undeniable fact that, merely thoroughly overwhelming.

One home remedy - one quart 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1 cup baking soda and one teaspoon liquid soap. Leave on the dog for 10 minutes and rinse with tap water. There are commercial remedies as well, but i doubt you could get one this late :) Have fun.... If he got sprayed in the mouth you might have the smell around for a while ....

Mix a bottle of household hydrogen peroxide with 1/4 cup of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of dish soap..Use it while it is foaming, and soak the dog down with it, clear to the skin..Leave on for 10 minutes, and rinse well..be careful to keep it out of his eyes..You can wash his eyes with milk if they are red..
