No, the Very basics of how the military operates now would make the draft more damaging to it than anything. It's all political claptrap. Don't you notice the ones bringing it up have no chance of being caught up in one? (or their kids, for that matter?)

No. This was the brainchild of Dem Congressman Charlie Rangel of New York. He brought it up last year and took a political beating over it and created a minor firestorm. It keeps his name in the news so he continues to go back to it and can't leave it alone. He has NO support.
Even the military opposes it.
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Rep. Charles Rangel introduced a bill in Congress Tuesday to reinstate the military draft, saying fighting forces should more closely reflect the economic makeup of the nation.

No.
Reinstating the draft has been proposed by certain members of Congress who oppose the war in Iraq (such as NY's Charles Rangel). The view they take is that it's mostly the children of poorer and working class families who are fighting and dying in Iraq. If the children of the wealthy and politically connected (and particularly the children of politicians) faced the risk of being killed in Iraq, then the President / Congress would end the war.

Not likely, it wouldn't make any politician very popular to vote for reinstatement. No more likely it is just a rumor meant to stir the pot.

They've been talking about it since the draft ended haha!
And just for clarification, the Liberals are the ones that keep talking about a draft... I can't stand how people blame republicans/conservatives for it when it's not even their top priority.

peachpie, you should be scared if they have a draft becuase if they do, they'll take females to go and die for the iraqis. They won't have a draft though, not for the iraqis' war. who knows what other countries we'll send our troops into to die for other groups of people .

I was under the impression it was deemed unconstitutional... or something along those lines. But then again, it would be extremely unfavorable and any politician low enough to propose it be brought back would probably be chased out of office or impeached.

I hope so. A lot of our young men could use the military in there lives. It would help them with college expenses and it would help them to get a better job in the future.

With the U.S. spreading its troops so thin around all over the world, a resounding yes, and probably soon.

This question's been asked before, recently (I know, I answered it). When you input your question, a bunch of blue-text questions appeared underneath. You should have clicked on one of those for the answer.
NOTE to Jonathan (above) - who said anything about Republicans?
