This always happens at the holidays. I read in the paper today that someone stole a baby Jesus doll out of a nativity scene and left a beer can in it's place. The whole manger scene was homemade 20 years ago, and only a few original pieces are left. Now, although I don't share your faith, I do think it's reprehensible of people to do things like this. I would never even consider doing something so crass and hurtful. There's not a lot you can do - karma will catch up with them in the end.

As an atheist, I can say without doubt that vandalism is wrong, no matter to whom it is addressed.
As a christian, I'm not sure you can make that statement, as you may feel that vandalism against a satanist chuch is justified. Or, in the case of the crusades, you might think laying to waste entire cities is justified.
This is the problem with belief in god. If you believe in something with no evidence, you can justify doing anything.

if you ever catch the vandals take up a collection so they can go to art school where they can learn to apply their creative talents in a constructive way.
you can't very well get all indignant and punitive without revealing gross hypocrisy since many many Christian churches were built upon the desecrated holy sites of the indigenous peoples the Christians conquered.

Kids. Satanic symbols are so infantile. Clean the statue and get back to business. Don't react at all. What they did is nothing compared to what we did to the real Jesus.

First, lots of Christains don't think Catholics are Christians. Such is life.
Second, Christians already know how to react; or they should. As well as persecuting others, they have been persecuted too. You can throw a fit, or you can maintain your dignity. It's your choice.
Third, I wouldn't even be convinced that it wasn't other Christians who did this. With the hatred of the Catholic Church, it could have been some of the ultra-fundamentalist sort who believe that the Catholic Church and their statues are Satanic. Who knows?

I live in San Diego too. I know what you are talking about. I dont think it's necessarily the Christians, it's the Media! It was a slow night of crime and murder so they reported on that.

That is truly sad the best thing you can do is pray for the vandals I do not blame you for being angry that was a very mean and unkind thing to do.
