it kinda hesitates a second and then it thumps pretty hard. i replaced the front engine mount a while back so i dont think it is the problem. also, it has a constant chug to it when idleing...not much smoke or anything, so what is the deal?

It sounds to me as if the transmission is not shifting into the lowest gear as easily as it should. When it finally does, you hear the thump sound. I would start by having the transmission fluid and filter changed. Hopefully that is all it needs...

You may be actually looking at transmission problems. It may not be downshifting all the way to first as it should when you stop. Its a common chrysler/dodge problem. Im sure DodgeMan will give you a pointer on what else to look for. But it seems like a likely place to start.
