My husband has a younger sister who is severely developmentally disabled. My two sisters- although not developmentally disabled- are ignorant. They're often using the slang "That's so retarded" when referring to things that they don't like. My husband hasn't said anything about it, but I find it offensive that they use that slang in front of him, knowing he has a "retarded" sister. I have asked them several times to refrain from using that word, and they tell me I'm being too uptight about it. Even though my husband doesn't SAY it bothers him, I can still tell that it does- What more can I do?

I'm sorry you have to deal with the situation. I don't think there is a way to change your sisters if you have already expressed how you felt to them. Unfortunately you can't pick your relatives.
If you have already talked to them formally. Not out of anger or reproach to what they said at the moment then please do. If you can't sit them down and talk to them try writing them an email. Try not to use words which sound as though you are attacking them but instead concentrate on how it makes you feel when they say these types of comments and how it makes your husband feel.
Try saying things such as "when I hear comments such as that it makes me feel" instead of "when you say comments such as that"
I know it's hard but try not to sound as though you are accusing them of anything. The end result could be that they become defensive.
If you have already tried that approach then I think you should concentrate on your husband instead. Talk to him and see how he feels when he hears those words. Let him know that you have made an effort to talk to your sisters about their behavior. This may make him feel better knowing you don't condone such behavior and you made the effort to stand up for him.
He should understand that you have no control over your sister's behavior. He's lucky he married the best of the three.

well i got a cousin of mine to stop my bf cousin whom i am wonderful friends with is " retarded" an she does the same saying that is so retarded i came up with when i dont like something or get upset when she is around i say that is so KIM she stoped
