I need all the information one can give me. I have to decide in like week or two now if I want to be in the dental hygienist field. I have been doing lots of research and I went to the school today. I'm going to set up an appointment with a dental hygienist on Monday too. The only thing holding me back is the insane cost of the schooling and the loan I will have after.(Right now I hardly have a loan which is great.) What is also holding me back is how do I know that I'll truly love this proffesion..and the duties involved..I mean its not like everyday I'm working on someone’s teeth, to know. I've been looking into my husbands mouth trying to think can I work looking inside people mouths (lol) I have also been going online reading about the procedure and they do make me curious and want to learn more. The bloody pictures of scaling/ root planning aren't to bad, I mean their bloody. How can one prepare to see blood like that on a daily basis in that career.. how bad is the blood in total

A dental hygienist is responsible for cleaning, preventing and detecting pathologies. In other wors she cleans your teeth with tools (prophylaxy, and tartar removal), she looks to see if theres an infection or something wrong in the mouth and she teaches how to take care of the mouth to patiens...Dental hygienist is the best paid job for the least amount of scholarship. around 20$/h. The inconvinient is that a dental hygienist has to work for a dentist and cant work for herself. So if u get a jerk as a boss, ur doomed...but u can always change dentist. good luck.
BTW a dental hygienist rarely sees blood...leav that to the dentist. plus its not that bad...Dental cabinets are usually very illuminated places, so ur not gonna be depressed by your job...working underground will make you depressive...
I'm a dentist and i like my job...its almost the same thing then being a dentist but you do less diversified things and cant take decisions by yourself.

The hygienist isn't allowed to drill. I does no longer matter what number cases she watched. i'd even question the very shown truth that she crammed it. Get a legal specialist. on the least, they owe you a root canal from yet another dentist and time lost from paintings.

OMG., you only pay your hygienist $20 an hour??? Is that plus production bonuses? Where I come from it is more like $30/hr.

Get your schooling, come to BC and make $45/ hour no questions asked. I would do it in a heartbeat if I was 20 again
