I hate to answer this...
Is He old? Dogs (animals) know when something is wrong with them.. but unfortunately they can't tell us...
I don't want to scare you by telling you this.. but when my beloved pet did this... I truly believe that She knew... that Her time was near...
Watch your pet closely, but give Him space as well... Let him know that you love Him.. and that you are there... but then allow Him time to rest.. of coarse, if you notice anything else out of the ordinary, or if His "shying away" continues... you could take Him to the Vet... but maybe He will regain His normal actions soon, and that this is just "one of those times".. that He just doesn't feel good...
I wouldn't suggest letting this continue more than 48 hours without seeking the observation and diagnosis of a Vet.
Good luck to you... and I hope your Dog gets better soon.

Try to encourage him to play. get his fave toy and if hes not interested try later and if hes still not interested take him to a vet. Lethargy in a normally active dog is cause for concern. If there is nothing wrong with him get a multi vitamin anyway (cant hurt). Whats missing? What has changed that would affect him this way. Does he still get excited over a walk? Does he have enough toys or does he just need some sort of new stimuli - toys. I know how worrying it is when your dogs behaviour changes like this. I hope he perks up soon. Give him a cuddle from me :-)

Well first you need to consider if there have been any dramatic changes in your dogs life. Lost any pets? Family members? Are you away from your dog more? It could also be an annual thing. My dog gets skitish and sluggish during summer, if you haven't owned the dog it's entire life you don't know what it's already experienced. Also it may be sick or just getting old. Try cuddling with it more and playing, walking things that the dog enjoys.

I am really sorry that your dog might be having the "blues"
I really hope that i can help you out a bit.Normally when a dog does that,He might be lonely and might need a friend to play with.
I would try maybe comforting him and spending time with him, also check out this website which talks about what are the causes in pet loneliness.check it out

Does your dog get out of the house much? Maybe he's bored. Try taking him to a dog park to socialize with other dogs. New toys or maybe just some playtime with mom.
Does he show signs of being sick? Take his temp and see.

I would offer him one of his favorite toys and see if he interacts with it. My puppy likes to play fetch with a ball. When he returns the ball to me, I click a clicker device to signal appropriate behavior and he gets a reward so this motivates him. He should enjoy attention from you so I would try signaling him to come and again reward him. If he remains in the corner repeatedly with little interaction or play I would have him checked by the vet.

If he is not to big hold him and cuddle with him. If he is bigger pet him scrach behind his ears and talk to him, in a soft soothing voice, try to get him to play. Touch the tip of his nose if it is cool and moist I believe that means he is not sick if it is hot and dry feeling he may not be feeling well Just see if he will play.

give a big kiss...to your dog and hug him warm..towards your heart beat. -- i do that...first do not take him to the vet, not yet. instead have a good check up of yourself with your family doctor. the dog -- sometimes (mine does always) sympathizes with his master illness. if the master is sad. the dog feels that and the pet is sad too. i have seen my dog come under the sheet -- and search for me when i am depressed. true. so watch yourself before you watch your pet. most answers felt deep sympathy for your dog -- i go along with them -- because we know what owning a dog/pet means. hope your pet feels better by now and you do too.

Take to the Vet, if nothing is wrong let him sit on the couch with you or in your lap. Mine loves to sit in my lap when I am watching TV. He weighs 43# so he's no light weight but we like to sit with each other.

does he look sick? If not give him attention, play with him, don't let him just sit there, he could be bored, give him some toys, teach him tricks, pay attention to him. Talk to him, he knows every word you say.
