i'm looking for my first apartment in manhattan or downtown brooklyn, does anybody know any good places that's affordable?

well, i am going through the same thing. i am looking for an apartment in NY..lol well i found that www.99john.com has studio apartments at 2600 and up... but it you are a true professional accountant lawyer doctor etc.. then you can afford it but if you are not one of those you will not be able to afford anything in downtown manhattan or downtown brooklyn, they are very exspensive. you can always contact me if u would like.

manhattan and downtown brooklyn are quite expensive.
queens is awesome and much more affordable. even roosevelt island. im in greenpoint brooklyn and pay 1400/mo. great place though, great view. if you want to live real cheap you have to settle living at least a 40 minute train ride to the city. or having several roomates.
check craigslist. and beware of brokers fees.

It really depends on what your idea of affordable is. But I would check craigslist first.
