Separation of church, or religion, and state is a modern myth held by far to many.
This season was first a pagan religious observance which was "converted" to a Christian observance AFTER Christianity was made the religion of the state.
True Christiantiy never was nor ever has been part of any state. It was made the religion of the Roman Empire much like the United States has daylight savings time.
Worshippers of all sorts of gods, party goers of every sort went to bed pagans one night and woke up Christians the next morning? Really? Really nothing changed except the Roman church had become a political power.
It is the same with daylight savings time. The sun doesn't change but the clocks do and the people follow. Marchie, marchie little ones.
Christianity had become a real force and to maintain religious as well as political power; people in power joined themselves to it.
Political power and religious power have always gone hand in hand. Anyone who can read and understand history should know this.
The "rulers" of this world do not care what religion is in force as long as they have control. Most religious leaders in this world do not give a fig about religion as long as they maintain their power. They all work together or work apart to maintain their power over people.
Bottom line. If there were no Christianity this would still be a religious holiday. The only difference being that office parties might be a little more rank, less politically correct and free of the specter of sexual harassment.
Since it is a Yule celebration there might still be gifts and green trees and a Russian Babushka or the Dutch Belsnickel, or German Krampus instead of a Santa Claus makeover into yet another non-existant person. As non-existant as the separation of religion and state.

The term 'Separation of church and state' came from Thomas Jefferson in reply from a Baptist preacher who was concerned or in fear of "the state" or gov. getting involved with the church. NOT the other way around like many think. And it's not some law.
Our founding fathers were Christians and Adams wrote a few letters about if our country were to turn away from our God how awful it would be. Look at how God is all over this nation and it's monuments, traditions, money. We were founded on Christianity and much of our government, the way it was set up, shows this.
John Adams was a devout Christian he wrote,

[I]t is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue.

Current violations do not justify further violations of the first amendment. However...
...I've no problem with Christmas being a Federal holiday. Most people, including me, in the US celebrate it, and why complain if you're going to get a day off of work?

Well its not His birthday, that was in late sept-early october in the Jewish feast of tabernacles....nobody knows the exact date, no matter what they tell you. 6 months after Passover is all the Bible says. Passover falls on different day each year due to the difference between Jewsih and Gregorian calendars.
So, its not a Christian holiday, as it was brought over by Catholics the same day they all went from pagans to "Christians" Pagans still celebrate it, its called winter faire I think.
Its a Holiday off work because of the high participation rate.
