not with this equipment without your help... I can do it in a gas oven and an electric oven... but the only thing I have available here is a combi microwave thing which I have no instructions for regarding cooking times or anything...it has 4 micro settings, a grill, and three combi settings... any ideas?

I presume by 'combi', you mean able to grill or convection cook as well as micro-wave. If not you can't do it.
I have one, and even with the manual, it's trial and error.
And mine has an 'auto-sense' system for everything you could wish to do.
I have had a lot of luck downloading instruction manuals off the net. Almost everything is available. Just google your make and model number. You will even find forums for it.
There is even an active forum dedicated to an obscure cassette walkman, I found in the back of one of my drawers.

Go with what Steve G said. There is a special cooker that goes into the microwave that will let you cook stuff like the roast beef and it will cook it fast and be very tender at the same time. But you can still do that even if you don't have this item. All you have to do is have a large bowl and cover it with a towel. Have water in the bowl and the meat and place towel over it and cook.

Boil your beef for about 1hr on the hob then transfer to a pot suitable for your combi thingy (or, better still, if you have a crock pot, use that). Make the gravy using some of the water you boiled the beef in and add to the beef in the pot. In the combi, try using the oven settings for about 1hr, in the crockpot, cook on auto for about 2 hours . . . beef should come out nice and tender with the gravy perfect. Hope that helps!

Do you have a barbecue? Might be fun to wrap up warm and have a winter BBQ. There's lots of recipes on website mentioned below, and I would think some of them will adapt to your combi microwave on grill setting?

I would check out the combi settings. There might be a setting for meats. Experiment abit with the mirco before you try and cook anything expensive, and be creative with it if at all possible. Remember, NOTHING is ever IMPOSSIBLE!!

I sat and thought about your Q and i came to a conclusion, Roast Beef is just that, Roasted. A microwave no matter what settings it has won't roast a hunk of beef . Go for it Nuke away, it's going to cook from the inside out, it'll be cooked sooner or later but it won't be "Roast Beef"

Just put the joint in a microwave safe casserole, add some carrots, onion and beef stock. Cover and cook using the microwave only, not convection, and you will have a lovely pot roast.

I have never cooked in one of those cookers,
All I can say is put it on a low heat and don't
forget you'll have to wrap it in cling film and put air wholes in it so the meat does'nt go dry
or hard and another thing you can do is keep
looking at the meat to see when it's done, ok
hope this helps you.

I do not know the times to leave it but to put it on grill would be the best. If there are temperature settings set it fairly low. Keep checking it as it cooks and when it looks and smells nummy..TAKE IT IT OUT.

you have a grill settings but if you cook it so it looks ok on the inside it wont be cooked on the inside if your get it cooked on the inside by leaving it longer itll be burnt on the outside
I think you should cut your losses and cut the joint into thickish slices grill it with the micro wave piece by piece and have steak for dinner.
You'ld have to chop the joint up anyway best of luck mate
