I'm an atheist and a strong believer in equal human rights for everybody.

But for this question I wanted to assume a God exists and that every word in the Bible is true. Which would mean that homosexuality is an abomination to God. Which also means the little part of Christianity that fights firmly against homosexuals would be right.

So, assumption: God exists, is right, and homosexuality is a sin.

Does this situation tolerate the anti-gay movement? Following this assumption would God feel proud about people marching on the streets with signs saying "God hates fags" ? Or would God prefer the more open and friendly way of disagreeing with homosexuality that many other Christians do? Which of these two examples stays closer to the Bible and God?

I understand the quest to seek some moderation in tone, but I disagree that your premises are worth accepting.

Based on your triple assumption (God exists, is right, and homosexuality is a sin), the only question you're asking is whether it's better for Christians to have good manners or not. With elements of the Old Testament promoting war crimes, Jesus taking a whip to the temple's money changers and condemning barren fig trees to death, and the book of Revelation describing a sword wielding Christ, I'm not certain you're able to count on Christians finding consistent Biblical injunctions to follow Emily Post's etiquette guidelines.

I prefer to challenge the historic interpretation of the elements in the Bible, and failing that, to point out that a pluralistic society allows Christians to live under whatever rules they want for themselves, but does not allow them to impose such restriction on people who have no interest in accepting their particular brand of Christianity.

I can see where it could get a little confusing. Actually I didn't know there was scripture a/b homosexuality until a week ago. Yes in Leviticus it states that if a man sleeps w/ a man as a woman it is an abomination, BUT he wouldn't and doesn't want us to persecute them for their lifestyle. Like he said a/b the prostitute Let him w/ no sin cast the 1st stone. No one can do it b/c we are all sinners. We may think it is not right for individuals to be gay, but we CAN INDEED disagree in a non hateful manner! I know it's a lot jumbled into a little blog, but thats how I feel a/b all that. God Bless!

Absolutely not.
With the assumptions: "God exists" and "Homosexuality is a sin" we as Christians should treat homosexuality like any other sin. It is the same as stretching the truth, cheating, skipping church, coveting your neighbor's car, or fudging on your taxes. We don't go around saying "God hates teens who rebel against their parents!" or "God hates people who aren't generous!" and there's no reason that the anti-gay movement should bring people down, degrade them, call them names, or embarass them.

Why does this happen, then? Honestly, I think that it's because they are defensive against the very open homosexuals who insist that they be allow to get married, to become ministers, etc. etc. Because it is constantly in the media, constantly being thrown at "intolerant" Christians, some "Christians" go overboard in their defenses and become over-zealot to the point where the forget WHY they are against it, and become more concerned with WINNING or FIGHTING.

Hope that helps!

Well I believe the scripture relating to homosexuality in Leviticus is followed by a commandment that they should die, but the Law (Old Testament) was put in effect only to keep us supervised and we can not be righteous by fulfilling the law and its provisions about how to cleanse ourselves or our land no longer apply. You see the moral laws still apply, like if God says homosexuality or stealing or coveting is a sin, it is always a sin, but no amount of executions, hand-washings, or animal sacrifices can purify us - sanctification is, according to the Bible, only attainable through Christ.

As to the two groups you speak about, neither of them follow what God might deem as good. The one that holds up hateful signs are neither loving God nor loving their neighbor, they are only using God as a tool to persecute their neighbor, which is abominable in itself. The other group, which pushes for legal rights, is not engaging in a religious movement. In other words, people who push for gay rights are only trying to gain government approval, but even if all the governments in the world gave gays full and equal rights, God is still a sovereign judge and if he condemns someone for their sin, it doesn't matter how many governments were okay with it.

The only thing I will say is I don't want to take any chances. Like you said what if there is and you deny Him I wouldn't want to be in your shoes. We will only know when it happens.

Also if there is a true God I highly doubt if he or she agrees with any idiot that marches and preaches hate against anyone no matter what they claim to be....those same marchers have destroyed other people's property and killed people by burning clinics and doctor's offices claiming abortion is murder. What do you call what they did?? I think God would say they also committed murder.
If people would ignore creeps like that and not give them so much press and throw their butts in prison maybe they'd mind their own business.

Also if any one wants to be homosexual that's their business as long as they don't push it on someone that doesn't agree with it like anything else people try to push on others.

I think if we just mind our own business we'll be ok and if someone ask for help do the best you can or direct them to someone that can.

The second, assuming as you say, the Bible is true... Jesus showed us by example how to treat others. He hung out with prostitutes and tax collectors. He didn't condone their sins but He wasnt screaming in their faces. He could have just as easily carried "God hates Fags" signs too and didnt. What He did do however, is verbally trash those spouting the Law all over.

God does not hate homosexuals. God hates the sin of homosexuals. God would prefer that we care about the homosexuals and would not approve of us carrying a sign which is not true.

My Atheist Friend,

Any Religion wants its followers to have a Peaceful, disciplined, righteous life.
Homosexuality is not a disciplined one to have in ones life, it causes lots of problem in ones life, in a family, in the society.
But it may not be bad for someone but definitely bad for most of the people in the society. So we always have to think about our family, our society do not be a selfish person, do not think of your happiness think about others happiness too.
Lead normal.disciplined life be straight, everyone will love you, the love you get from the people will stop you from leading a shameful homosexual life.
Do not try to justify yourself make your people around you happy automatically your life will become Happy.
Look whatever God says he says only for our Good, do not believe in Bible if you want, believe only one thing "Be Good and Do Good".

i think of it incredibly is sayings like "God hates F*gs" painted on indications and used in demonstrations that provides human beings the concept that christians are homophobic. you're utilising an previous e book to make political and ethical judgements. I even take exhilaration on your hate crammed words contained in the 1st sentence of your positioned up, generalizing and lumping all nonbelievers, (non-christians), as Satanists. Prejudging others based on your guy or woman own ideals is the bread and butter of christianity and the bible. There are actual books in line with information available that coach traditionally or maybe immediately that religious bigotry is thoroughly unchecked. and of direction if somebody disagrees with you or the bible then we can in simple terms die or pass to hell or this type of staggering, LOVING issues.

No No No No No.........That is not who God is....And those of us who know him are well aware of it. All of us are sinners and even while we were in our sin Christ who is God was tortured and died a horrific death for us....God love us all and we are all sinners but some of us have accepted the atonement he provided even so it is a gift not anything we acomplished we are all sinners saved by grace..We do not hate. We are not better than anyone else we are all God's creation and have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and by his loving mercy he has provided salvation.
