Selecting a wedding dress is proving to be a bit difficult. My wedding is in seven months and I've heard I should have my dress selected by now. I've been to a lot of wedding dress boutiques in the area and looked at wedding dresses online and NOTHING looks like it's "me." I'm turned off by the typical "wedding dress" styles and have started looking at alternatives, but either the dresses are too formal, not formal enough, or would look silly as a "wedding" dress.
If it helps, here's my wedding setting: I'm having my wedding in the summer on a boat that can hold 90 people. I'm having both the ceremony and reception on the boat, married by the captain. My fiance and I both agree that we'd like the wedding to be more like a "party we just happen to get married at" than a formal, stuffy event. I'm trying to find a dress that reflects this while also making a statement that it's an important day.
I'm not quite sure how to continue my search. Help!

As far as designing it myself or paying someone else to design it for me, there are two problems: 1) I don't know what I want and I'm counting on knowing when I see it, and 2) I don't want to spend more than $350 on my dress.

I suppose I should clarify that I've already been to David's Bridal twice and was turned off by them. They carried only the typical wedding dress styles and the lady I worked with seemed very distracted the entire time. I felt it was an awful experience; I'm avoiding them as much as I can.

Good Luck

I found my dress at David's Bridal (hope you have one near you). If so, make an appointment & they are wonderful. They will assign one woman to help you the entire time, from finding a dress to your fittings, and everything in between. I found my dress the first day I went in & took it home that night. They have $99 dress sales, which are great if you don't want to spend over $350. However, my dress was only $300, but after alterations, ended up being over $1000. My advice, take it somewhere other than David's Bridal for your alterations. Because they have so many choices, & usually they are in-stock, you shouldn't have a problem with getting it in time for your wedding. Good luck!!

Well i know exactly how you feel. What I have found helpful is to go by yourself. Go in with a blank mind and only picturing the scene and yourself standing next to your love one. Don't forget about being comfortable and cool. You would not want a dress that was too stuffy or puffy looking like a marshmallow and nothing to confounding so you wont perspire and then hearing rumors how you hugged everyone with an Oder. Think about what is really comfortable and what makes you happy.

I got mine from eBay it is probably way to formal for what you are thinking but they did a great job and they can make anything from a picture. its called giannabridal my dress was 220 including flower girl dress crinoline and postage. It also only took them 30 working days to get it from Asia to Canada. My seamstress who does all the dresses from the local stores said it was the same quality as anything I would have bought here. They have lots of styles and mine was something I had never seen before. They do have a return policy but you could cosignment sale it for what you pay for it if you don't like it.

Check out Jessica McClintock's wedding dresses as well. They are affordable and you can have them altered to maybe be a style that's more you since you aren't spending a thousand dollars on a wedding dress.
I actually bought my wedding dress on ebay. You can search forever on there for wedding dresses. I bet you find something soon.

There are dresses that I have found that should suit your wedding. They designed by Landa Designs and Group USA. Also you should check out Eden Informals. They have really nice dresses.
Another option that you have is a destination wedding dress. This is just a more simple dress; most of them are floor lenght.

there are some amazing dresses here to look at. I would think something fairly simple but with the wind on a boat you will want it to flow nicely in the breeze.

In the town east of yours there is a small shop. It has a red awning. You will find the dress you want there.
