I'm in pain, and can't get in to see the Dentist until the week after next. I was hoping to hear from those of you that have actually tried something and it worked. Thanks in advance!

Depending on what is causing your pain, Ibuprophen will probably work. Most dental pain is caused by an inflamation and Ibuprophen is an anti-inflamtory. If your pain is caused by an infection, only antibiotics will help. I have heard that rubbing and ice cube on your hand will reduce the pain. I know it sounds weird, but at least it doesn't cost anything to try.

Ambesol (sp?) works well to numb the pain but it doesn't last very long so you will constantly have to reapply it. It does have an antiseptic quality to it, so it should prevent or reduce infection.

Unless there is something really spectacular about this dentist, I suggest you find another one. You should not have to wait that long for an emergency appointment. At the very least the dentist should take 10 minutes to determine the cause and prescribe the appropriate pain reliever or antibiotic. It doesn't sound like this dentist is taking your pain very seriously.

try this remedy i did this before i had a root canal after reading and it worked and yes it taste gross

2 parts white oak bark herb – powder
1 part myrrh gum herb – power or granules
3/4 part Peppermint leaves converted to powder
½ part anise herb – power or seeds
1/8 part clove - powder

If herbs and leaves are not in powder form, grind them in a coffee grinder. Use this formula to make as much powder as you want.

Place the mixture into a small container. I usually use a small-unused vitamin bottle.

I usually mix a small amount and use a tablespoon as my measuring tool. For example, 2 tablespoons of white oak, 1 tablespoon of myrrh gum, ¾ tablespoon of peppermint leaves, and so on. The measurements do not have to be so precise.

How to use it

To control bacteria in your mouth, use this power once a week. If you have gingivitis, you can use this 3 times a day. Place some powder on your toothbrush and brush your teeth and gums. After brushing spit out, a few time, the saliva and residue powder. Don’t rinse out your mouth since you want to keep the active herb powders in your month. You can swallow any that remains in your mouth with no problem.

This powder combination is bitter, but quite powerful and will get the job done. You can add more peppermint powder to make it less bitter, if you like.

For severe cases of gingivitis and toothaches, you can also moist some powder with distilled water and then place the paste all along the your teeth and gums – front and back. Leave the paste in your mouth as long as you can. Don’t worry about the herbs getting in between your teeth.

if you don't have all these items.. used crushed cloves with toothpaste and mix it and use it on your teeth it works.

yes, there are lots of them that actually work. The chemistry of some very simple ingredients works exactly like "professional" treatments because chemically speaking, they are the exact same ingredients. I hardly ever recommend them to users on here as I have not examined their pet and can't tell if it is something simple or something else that can only be treated by a vet. Since common sense isn't so common any more, I often tell posters to go to the vet. I would rather err on the side of caution than give someone advice that could turn to be harmful because the poster themselves can't tell sh!te from shinola. I mean really- if the questioner is not smart enough to keep their animal inside in the first place then why would I think they could understand instructions on how to lance and clean and dress an infected wound. Besides, I am not even confident that half of them could tell if it was a simple flesh wound or if it was serious. Every time I read one of those questions like "My cat/dog got hit by a car, how do I treat their broken leg,ribs,jaw... at home", I get sick to my stomach... any more, if it isn't something dead simple, I just tell them to get to a vet.

Hold some luke warm, salted water in your mouth, directly on the aching tooth. It will sooth and ease the pain. Do this as often as necessary until you can get to the Dentist.

Another remedy is to place an aspirin on the aching tooth and allow it to slowly melt into the cavity. This definitely will ease the pain, however it does taste nasty. ..it just depends on how badly your tooth is aching. The nasty taste is usually tolerable compared to the terrible pain of a toothache.

Good Luck and call your Dentist on MONDAY to insist on an earlier appointment. They usually have emergency openings available to patients that are hurting.

clove oil. It's potent, so don't get any on your tongue.
You can buy it at a health food store and some pharmacies have it. Use a toothpick to apply it around the tooth. It deadens the pain!
Sometimes, peroxide will help, too. use a Qtip and apply full strength.

CLOVE OIL -- if you cant find it, use whole cloves.. crush one slightly and gently bite it onto the aching tooth. It doesn't take ALL the pain away all the time - but it helps a little. It numbs the gums around the area.

Ibubrufen (painkillers) - good old rememedy and helps in moderation.

I was in the same situation several years ago and stumbled on "Goodies" powder. Works great! You can find it at Walgreens. BC Powder doesn't seem to work. Hope this works for you. I've told several folks about it over the hears and they all say it works great for them
