Have never served in the Military? The only problem over there is that we are using them as a Police force, which they are not. If the public wants results, then free them to do what they do best. Yes, a heck of a lot of innocents will be killed, but, are they not being killed in record numbers right now? War is NEVER supposed to be a good thing, but, when it is necessery (and I do not care who started it or why) then they ONLY way is to do it to win, at all costs. Not let public opinion run it.
Thoughts?

The father of one of the kids in my class is home from Iraq for a two week visit and he says even the people we are suppose to be helping don't want us there. And he's a 47 year old who's seen a lot in the military and had high hopes for helping people when he first was deployed. Make what you will of that.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! On May 1, 2003, President George W. Bush addressed the United States from deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln. He declared the end to major combat operations in Iraq. A large sign displayed "Mision Accomplished!" behind him.
Thirty months later, we are still in Iraq. The administration and American news networks (except NBC) still refer to the Iraqi Cvil war euphemistically as "sectarian violence". Hence the use of the military as "a police force".
Since it is frequently difficult to determine who "the bad guys" are (unless they are shooting), exactly what is it that you are suggesting here when you write "free them to do what they do best"?
Causing more casualties without regard for the "innocents" will only bring more insurgents and world condemnation. It will NOT win us anything. Remember My Lai? The area of Ishaqi is starting to look a lot like My Lai.
We have to get out of there with all speed. I don't have a solution for withdrawal and victory, but I am SURE there can be no victory as long as US troops remain.

Well who says you need to serve in the military to care about them?
Does the government officials have to serve in the military to order and mobilize troops?
We want to bring out troops home because we don't want any more deaths, American Soldiers and Iraqis..
War is never a good thing, doesn't that mean we should avoid it?
Do you even care about our soldiers? Or even other peoples opinions? Do your god damn research before you start criticizing others opinions, the only way to win is what happened in Vietnam... This is a country run by the people, not fascist dictators, public opinion does matter. Our country was based on public opinion, the moment you change that you change this country's Constitution and it's founding base.
By the way, a patriotism for one's country leads to the hate of another...
If we want to win this war at all cost we would've dropped nuclear weapons and started torturing Muslim citizens and making sure that they aren't terrorist just like we did to the Japanese citizens in WWII... We would be drafting men and mobilizing every citizen of this country into battle that isn't disable or have government jobs...
We should fix up our own country before we go into another country and try to "fix" it up, if so then what about countries that need more help then Iraq? Somalia?..
I'm all for the troops and I hope they get out and go back to their families and stop watching their teammates and innocent people die and end up developing PSTD and being regarded as another homeless trash...
Why the **** should go low as those who we are fighting? Torturing and raiding innocent villages and forcing others to fight or die... We are Americans, we brag about how we are so good and respect the rights of others.. When you joined the military you agreed to uphold the word HONOR AND RESPECT. So why should be go "all out" to win this war and screw the innocent people? There is never a time when sacrificing innocent people to "win", "at all costs".

I love it! Now they want to compare it to Viet Nam. Well, here's a news flash; we were winning in Viet Nam. We lost that one here at home to the cowards who were afraid that they were going to be drafted and to the opportunists who perverted the whole thing to use for their own interests. They tell me that TET was the turning point. What the wackos don't admit is that the NVA and the Viet Cong lost more troops during TET that the USA did during the entire Viet Nam conflict. We had them on the ropes until the cut & runners got their way. Now they want to do the same thing here.

Because the U.S. has not been able to defeat the rebels so far. The whiners will be singing praises if the military has been able to eradicate the insurgents. Everybody loves winners. I say, set a deadline, increase our force there to the max for now, attack the insurgents and wipe them out with no mercy, then leave.it might not be simple but a big stick enforces a policy loud and clear.

No Vietnam is what happens with the politicians and public have no faith in our military. When the public pressured the whimpy politicians they gave in as now. You put too many restraints on the military and you can't conduct the military properly.

So why are soldiers dying over there? What reason? First it was wmd (no wmd). then itw as to get al-queda and 9/11, but iraq didn't have ties to either of those. then it was peace and democracy (not there either). then it was to get hussein, but Hussein was put into power and given weapons by USA, and USA killed more iraqis than hussein and life is worse off NOW than before invasion. So why are american soldiers dying over there? it's not for oil, because iraq produces less oil now than before invasion. Iraq provided some 10 percent or so of OPEC's oil, now it's practically zero. So guess why your oil prices are so high. Also, iraqis want us out of there, and so do most of the american public.
So again, why are we over there? Why should we stay? Why is this government so forceful about staying over there when it serves no benefit? I'll tell you why: PNAC. Research it, and see if you want to keep sacrificing american lives for people who don't help us.

I agree....as my husband says they need to let the dog off the chain. Until the politicians stop running this by the poll numbers and let the military take care of things there will only continue to be more bloodshed.

Thank You very much for asking this. My son has served in the military for 8 years now. He went to Afghanistan, directly after 9/11, was in the first push into Iraq, and went back, VOLUNTARILY, in September 2005 for another 13 month tour. I can't understand either: America wants to be free....we brag about it, ridicule others who aren't American, we crave it, fight about it amongst ourselves, practically revel in it...but when it comes to supporting the very people who are responsible for our continued freedom, America turns into...well, to put it bluntly...howling infants. We want it all, but will give NOTHING for it! Sadly, 9/11 taught us nothing. I say, do what must be done, and damn the consequences...war is war....
And while its true that some people there do not want us, and its also true that we need not have gone in the first place, it is also true that we NEED to support our military, in any and every way possible....if that means shutting up and swallowing our "free speech" so that they can do what needs to be done, so be it.
