Is it normal and ok to hire dietitians to figure out your body type and create a diet that will work for you? If so, how much does this typically cost?

That is exactly what dietitians do. If you are overweight, have your doctor write a referral. Most insurance plans will cover consultations with a dietitian. Then you will only have to pay the specialist copay for your plan.

it depends a lot on where you're coming from but i know that the health region I'm in in Canada does provide consultations to patients who meet specific criteria - overweight/obese, diabetic, facial trauma etc.
i would start by checking your benefits plan at work to see where that leads you - some companies have what's called an employee assistance plan which often covers things like that. Also if you have a specific concern your doctor might be able to help you find resources
