i am writing an essay about should bilingaul education be required in elementary school in the U.S.? I WANT TO say that it's a good program be cause children can use two languages and they will have more jobs oppotunities in the future, because the U.S. have a lot of E.S.L. speaker. so i want to know how many E.S.L. speakers in the U.S.

The number of ESL speakers is not the issue - it is 'should the immigrants be welcomed into the English speaking country without having to learn English?' Many are unable and unwilling to take the time and effort to be bilingual. If bilingual education is available in elem schools, it will send the message that other languages are welcomed here.

And would it be Korean? Spanish? Chinese? and why not hire Estillipian teachers too - you never know when there may be an influx of people from there.

I have found that the second language that I speak fluently has been a tremendous asset to me.

I would be happy if students learned to read, write and speak english.
