Lean meat and fish. Fruit, veggies (fresh or frozen), whole grain breads and cereal. Low fat dairy products.

When I shop, I look for items that are on sale or offered at a reduced price (sometimes called "Manager's Special") because of the "use by" date. I try to buy specially priced meat and fish whenever I can and cook or freeze it the same day. Sometimes dairy products will be reduced too.

thats the problem, with many foods today, the cheapest ones are usually the worst for you. take instant noodles, sure the noodles are good for you, but the seasoning, thats about three days worth of salt right there. umm, but the best way to get healty food for cheaper is buy in bulk. costco, sams club. that sort of thing.

Peanut butter, lentils, beans, bananas, nonfat milk, honey (well, honey's not very cheap), whole-grain breads, any type of berries, leafy greens. . .that's all I can think of at the moment. Oh, and tea.
Bon apetit!
