Well you can grab his whole hand, or just joke and be like, hey don't you wanna hold my hand?

Just tell him--tell him that it is a little annoying to you when he holds only your thumb and tell him that you would greatly prefer that he hold your entire hand. (This is really what he would prefer also--he just needs a little prodding!)

try to start it. hold his hand first. i know its really annoying when girls are the one who have to get the guy to hold their hand or kiss them... but sometimes its worth it. just try to make a move.
