Can a small saucer (perhaps .5 to 1oz) of wine hurt a dog? He is a 94lb German Shepard/Collie/Rottweiler mix. We were wondering if he liked the taste, and the answer is yes (he can not stand beer).

Please stop responding to this question with "why would you do that?" I am not here to get flamed, I simply need an answer. If you don't know, please don't respond.

NO. I dont think its wise that you did that. Check his stool for the next couple of days and then if something different or wrong then contact your vet. If everything is fine and normal then he is okay. But please, do not do that again. It could have killed him because of the strong amount of alcohol.

I don't think it will hurt a dog that size. I have a 45 pound Springer Spaniel that knocked over drinks at our pool party last year and lapped them up. Wine, coolers, beer. He was fine. Although he did sleep pretty good that night. :) I used to have a friend whos dog used to frequent a certain bar every night and get a bowl of beer. The dog had a great life.

Like with humans, it depends on the size of dog and amount of wine. Once on People's Court (:P), there was a case where someone sued their ex-friend for making their dog sick by feeding it alcohol. They said it vomited all over the yard and such, and sued for vet bills.

No I don't think so, I spilled a glass of wine once and my dog lapped it up faster than I have ever seen him do anything, and he was fine, I wouldn't make it a regular thing, but if your curious give the fella a sip of something savory.

You should call your vet to be sure. Grapes are toxic to dogs and since that's what wine is made from I'd be nervous. You should probably ask the question BEFORE you do something so stupid next time!!

definitly not.Especially considering this is a one-time thing and the size of your dog. I've seen a dog smaller than that drink a whole beer (by accident of course!) and just be a little wobbly.

That's a very small amount for a very large dog. Don't worry about it!
