Simple answer: try online. It is true dating sites have a lot of fakers but also a lot of hopeless romantics. Mate1.com is very good and Hotornot.com is an inexpensive way to start. The real trick is to take someone out to do something you enjoy and are good at that they are neutral to (but don't necessarily enjoy yet) and teach them how to do it. Also if you feel you have to do it (and I've done this before), if you have a girl who's fascinated by you and wants to hang out with you a lot but throws out the "just friends" excuse give her an ultimatum.
First take her out and do something really athletic (no money or gifts involved) make her break a sweat (this naturally gets her sexual hormone level up...actually I got a girl who used to poke fun at me constantly to kiss me after a long run and ended up dating her and she was 24).
Then, just a little after when she can stand on her feet without looking tired to the point of looking defenseless, try and kiss her. If she pulls back and look slightly embarrassed, but not disgusted, say the following "hey you like a lot about me and I have a lot to offer and enjoy with you I don't know what your issue is but I know we're living like we're together but not enjoying the adventure. If you don't like how I kiss, heck, I'd never date a girl who did not kiss well, but I'd at least take the chance for another adventure should you really be throwing out this new moment before it happens?"
The main trick; don't feel guilty approaching women, and if they try to make you feel guilty, look at them in the eye like they must be nuts (and, think about it, if they judge something they haven't even tried, they probably are at least a bit nuts). Also, make sure to kiss by the third date, otherwise the girl you are dating will likely begin to view you as a provider not a lover, which can lead to an abusive one-way relationship. Feel guiltless and show her the creative somewhat risky side of you and you will be running around like infatuated high schoolers and having a blast.

26 years old and have never had a real love? You sound shy, you need to put yourself out there and and just try to mingle with as many girls as you can . The more girls you talk to the more comfortable you will be, don't be afraid of what they think about you, ask them out and get to know them and you might find the right one for you. But don't wait for her to come to you get out there and let people get to know you.
