What is gluacoma? What does it do? What is the cure/treatment? Why is it bad? I am 14 and i have been diagnosed with it Jan. 2006 but I don't know what it is. Every time I ask the doctors they don't really answer and avoid my question. I am already blind with that eye because of a cateract when I was born. Is it all that bad if that eye gets more screwed up? It makes me frightened...

Glaucoma has something to do with too much pressure in the eye I think the answer above is refering to cataracts. My mom and one of her sisters have both had it for years. They both have to use prescription eye drops. I think years ago some would loose their sight with glaucoma - but with the treatments they have today, I don't think that happens.

Also; don't ever stop asking questions - especially of doctors. Next time if you don't get an answer, politely ask your question again (and again, and again until they asnwer you.) It is unacceptable for a doctor to ignore their patient for any question.

Talk to your mama and tell her you're not happy with the explanations you've been getting (or NOT getting) from your doctors. Ask her (or your dad if you relate to him better) to help you insist that the doctor's explain it to you in a way that makes sense to you. Don't let the doctors blow you off because you're a kid. It's YOUR body and your health, and you have a right to understand what to expect. If you were 4 not 14, it would be different, but you are old enough to be informed about your own health.

I would suggest that you go onto Yahoo Health and search under Glaucoma, it explains it very thoroughly. I am sorry that your parents nor the doctor are being straightforward with you. But what you have can be treated, so don't get discouraged. The condition that the first person answered was about cataracts, not glaucoma.

Glaucoma is a film that covers the eye, making it difficult or impossible to see out of. I assume you are currently wearing glasses? If not the eye Doc. will prescribe some strong lens to help you. I do believe it can be removed with surgery...But glaucoma is normally found in the elderly..

You'll have to talk to the doctors about this. There is treatments for this and I'm sure there's controls with meds for it. I don't know why the doctors don't dispel your fears and tell you.
