If by "going" you mean urinating, it could possibly be a medical problem. If you mean defecating it's probably not medical. Defecation is a voluntary action and usually children that are potty trained only do this if they are experiencing some sort of trama in their life. Combined with the angry behavior, trama seems the most likely cause. Try to think back to especially specific episodes and see if you can come up with a pattern of contact with certain people. Try casually asking him how things are at home/visitation. Otherwise you should consult his pediatrician about an evaluation. If you don't have custody, try very hard to convince your son/daughter to do this. If He/She won't, call the doctor anyway. They will say they cannot discuss the patient with a non-parent. Tell them you do not want them to discuss it, you are only providing information. If nothing happens after that you HAVE to stay on top of this. A person that knows how to use a toilet does not stop doing so without reason. Something is wrong. If you have to contact Social Services (they rarely help without proof, but you can try) or hire a lawyer. Whatever you have to do, even if it makes the parents hate you, you have to do to save the child.

I had a full time Daycare for 8 years. This is a signal something is wrong. Where has this child been and what has happened to him. Has he been molested? That would be my first question. Do some checking and asking questions. This would explain the wetting and behavior change. Children that have been molested do change their behavior and act out. They are angry about being touched even at his age. This will affect him the rest of his life if you don't see a doctor. I would take him ASAP to a good pediatrician and explain what has happened. He will guide you. I have to tell you that once you confide in a Medical Doctor, they by law have to report any suspected child abuse to the police. They will lose their license if they didn't. If this was done by a family member, the child will be taken out of the home immediately. Please don't let this go on any longer and start doing some checking, and asking a lot of questions. You have an obligation to protect your grandson from any predators, regardless of who they are. God bless you!

His sudden change in behavior is his only way to let you know that something is wrong. If you and the parents can't figure out what the problem is then a visit to a child psychologist would probably be helpful. A child that young probably does not need ongoing "therapy" but assistance in determining the problem and the best course of action may be appropriate.

A few things to consider:
He may be aware and just doesn't care.
He may just be waiting too long to get to the bathroom.
There may be some type of abuse going on (parents or caregivers).
He may have a medical condition that is causing the problem.

There could be a change in the family. Is there a new newborn or young non-potty trained child in your grandson's life? Some kids revert back when there is a new change and/or they are around others that are not potty trained.

I used to work at a daycare when I was still in high school.
Your grandson might be doing it for attention or he just might not want to tell you that he has to go. He might think that he's a "big boy" and that he can hold his potty until the opportunity arises when he can go to the bathroom.

At the daycare, when the kids wet themselves, we always had a handy extra pair of pants available. We scolded them and told them that it was wrong for them to go to the bathroom in their pants and that it was very good of them to tell us when they had to go.

Don't be afraid to scold him for doing this. It's how he will learn.

As a teacher and counselor some times that means there might have been something traumatic that happened to him.. You need to go to the pedetrician a.s.a.p. and talk to him also ask him about if anyone touched him.

A Urinary Tract Infection has been known to cause this in children. Go to a doctor and check him out.
