Scientists have long known that airplane condensation trails act to both cool and heat the atmosphere. Contrails act as thin cloud barriers that not only reflect sunlight but also prevent the earth's heat from escaping into space. After 9/11 grounded all commercial U.S. flights for three days, daytime temperatures across the country rose slightly, whereas night time temperatures dropped. Flying between 6 P.M. and 6 A.M. contributed between 60 and 80 percent of the climate warming that originated from contrails.
The green lobby is increasingly obsessed by emissions from planes. This is madness. Last year, emissions from shipping far outstripped those from aircraft and vehicles outstripped both by miles!
The really heavy polluters are trucks and buses. They produce far more pollution than any other form of transport by miles!!!!
Cars, planes and trains have all seen vast improvements in engine design and efficiency which coupled with new fuels have probably done more to reduce carbon emmissions than anything else.
Apart from pollution the emissions from deisel trucks and buses, particularly when under load may have a far more serious and dangerous threat. One aromatic given off is present in 60% of all known cancers, another is present in 30%. Just as in the case of smoking direct proof they cause cancer will take time but a direct link is already there!!

everything we do effects our system on the earth. so we need to take into account as much as we possibly can without over doing it of course. I like how you never hear about wind power generators having an effect on global warming because they probably do have some type of effect even if its small. Power Stations pump out alot of very hot water into our rivers and such and as for solar power it also has an effect so basicaly when ever we try to get free energy from something *pretty much the hope of science* we end up taking energy from something and changing the way our world works. I hope we humans can someday learn to be content with what we have more and want what we cant have less of course I am a huge offender so I shouldnt be the first to cast the stone. Did you know that it takes about 40-50 years for the pollution from the ground to reach the ozone layer. I have a strong feeling that we will discover a new power sorce in the next 10-20 years and use it to fix some of our current problems while making some new ones.

I have always been interested in anything techie and I am a truck driver that used to be a mechanical maintenance person which is just a few steps below a mechanical engineer. I also have patents with my name attached to them from where I fabricated three jigs for a company I worked for. I have a job hauling flour in a tanker and have read about where the Germans when they were working on the v1 flying bomb or sometimes called the buzz bomb that they used coal dust for a propellant and I have been interested in trying corn flour in a jet engine or find someone who would be interested in developing such a system and that would cut down on the amount of harmful pollutants released from jet exhaust. Any interested parties please email me at whenintheyearight@yahoo.com and let me know how well you did on the idea! P.S. I know for a fact it will work because flour dust and air mixed at the right proportions is explosive and it makes for a nasty problem at mills!

Well, that's a simple question. First, and most important, there is no definitive scientific evidence that, IF global warming is happening, that it is man's fault (repition is NOT evidence). Second, in this nation we have grown accustomed to, and rightly so, some basic conveniences...ease of transportation and security are two of them. I for one have NO desire to throw away all that we have built simply because some Leftists are ticked off that we are a wealthy nation.

I think your right . Its hard to believe it takes less energy to fly a passenger at 450 mph to a place then taking a train or bus . More people are using cars is the reason they polute more

you must have forgotten about the most polluting gas emitted into the atmosphere. by far more methane gas is emitted than any other.
and yes you should know where it comes from.
and no, airliners only emit a small % of the total carbon monoxide.

Protocol whilst intercepting a hijacked passenger airplane as much as the morning of 9/11 replaced into to get its interest and direct it to land. there replaced into no protocol in place for capturing it down. All hijackings as much as that element in contact political demands or ransom, no longer using the airplane as weapons.

good qestion. jet aliners have a high standeds to meet. all planes are tested every year to certin standeds for emessions. miltery vechiles are no different. the money spend on making them more better for the envierment is large to say the least.

Partly because those sources are small compared to cars and industrial plants, and partly because you are not listening to the right people.
