I was sick for about a week and I finally summed up the courage to go to the emergency room (I'm a military dependent, so it was free, which is the only reason why I went there). My symptoms were headache over my right eye, severely sore throat, and not feeling like eating. I got diagnosed with sinusitis. I woke up this morning at about 4am coughing in my sleep I put my hand over my mouth to continue coughing and my hand was wet so I went to the bathroom to wash and there was blood on my hand. I called my mother who used to be a nurse and she told me that my symptoms were normal and not to be alarmed that it was just a normal occurrence when having a severe sore throat. My nose isn't leaking any discolored mucus and it hasn't the entire week that I was sick before going to the doctor. I've had my tonsils and my adenoids taken out. New symptoms occurred this morning as well: cotton mouth, vomiting (orange-like liquid), coughing blood, severe right ear pains, and high fever off and on.

Your mother is a nurse and told you coughing blood is normal. Excuse me for being rude but, doesn't she like you?

I would go to the ER or my doctor and let them know what's going on. First get a handle on the coughing blood. It could be anything from a badly stripped throat to a upper bronchial infection that needs instant treatment. Coughing blood is not normal, I'd like to add it could be a few other things too but we'll let that go. just go to the ER and tell them about the blood.

I have had Sinusitis before and coughing up blood is NOT normal..Trust me, I coughed so much and so hard that I thought I was bringing up a lung! Granted I am no doctor, but I find it hard to believe that excessive coughing would make your throat bleed. Extremely sore perhaps, but never bleed.

I believe sinusitis can do all that, when aggravated. Not sure about the coughing-blood part, but if your mom was a nurse, she would know more than I about that. Cotton mouth (oh, yeah), vomiting (generally, for me it's postnasal drip coming up and it's not orange????), ear pain (yes), high fever (I think so).

Go back to the emergency room, or your Doc. you need probably an antibiotic and an antihistamine. Maybe a Z-pack or shot of Rocephin and Decadron to help get this stuff moving out of your system.
