Homemade meals are made at home from fresh ingredients.Southern cooking is a style of cooking, but mainly it's the cooking of food that is little known to people in other areas of the country.Fried chicken is the most well known but things like grits, and country ham, okra and hushpuppies. Collard greens.A north carolinian will get a burger that has beanless chili and slaw on it. And everyone goes to fish camps to???? believe it or not to eat at a restaurant that serves fried fish, hushpuppies and slaw. And don't you dare serve a meal without sweettea,I'm fairly certain the lynching would commence. Lol that's what southern cooking is....whoops can't forget pecan and sweet potato pies

I think that there are several countries that claim southern styles. There's Southern Italian, Southern Spain, Southern France. Last but not least, Southern USA. And all can be home made.
Have a look at the link below.

I am no expert, but my guess is just that homemade can mean any home, but southern-style is just that- food cooked in the style of the south.

I think the difference is in the spices. I grew up on Southern food but I live in the Detroit area and the soul food around here is almost the same stuff just a little spicier. This is making me hungry for some Fried Chicken and Biscuits!

If you lived in Italy and made home made meals every day, do you think they would be called Southern Style?
Southern Style is whatever cooking is indigenous to the American South and nothing more - home made or not.

Southern Style relates to recipes from Dixieland. Home-made just means made at home, anywhere on the planet.
