Okay, my little kitty, tonight is it's first night here. and well umm. How do I tell if it needs to go potty? He's staying in the cat carrier so he can get used to being in it, cause we won't be home at 5 am, to 2 pm cause we are at work. we come home at 11 for lunch for an hour. but. well. yea I just need to know the signs there are for when it has to go potty cause I can't let him roam around because he'll get lost haha, and he likes to go into the little crooks and cranny's that could hurt him.
Thanks a bunch

They are not like a dog, they won't tell you. They are very independent when it comes to going to the litter box. If you keep her locked up in a cage the majority of the time, she'll keep it inside and risk an infection which can be very serious. Just letting her out once in such a long period can be devestating.
Try getting a fenced cage or something (like for dogs) so she can have the litter box within easy reach. Also fresh water is a must.
I understand your concern, but never let a cat go without a 'bathroom breaks' when they need it! If you need to, get a bigger carrier (like for dogs), but keeping her locked up like that can be emotionally and mentally devestating as well...if this is your only option for the long run, she may not be happy.

First of all don't get a pet if you plan on keeping it in a carrier. A kitty needs to wander around. If you take the kitty out and put it in the litter box then let him walk around the house and about every 30 minutes put him back in the litter box until he uses it once. Once he uses the litter box he will not need to shown again. Also kitties can be left alone for long periods of time as long as they have food, water and a litter box. Don't be cruel to your animal.

I'd say for the time being I would put him in the bathroom with his litter box. This way you won't have to worry about timing. I would also recommend this for keeping him while you are away during the day - until the cat is used to the house. That only takes a few days and unless your house in the tazmahal your cat will be fine alone. Take it from someone who has a house - first few nights put him & kitty litter in a room (preferrably bathroom) and during the day (since you don't want him out) then when he gets used to the house, you won't have to worry about it. He'll find his litter box when he needs it.

It best to confine him to one room with his food and water and a litterbox for the first few days. He needs to move around to digest his food and have it ready to eliminate. You don't "crate train" a cat as you do a dog. He will not want to soil his carrier just like a dog and he needs to have a litterbox because that if what he will use for the rest of his life.
So, his own small space for a while and a slow introduction to the rest of the house when you are there to supervise him. A kitten should be confined to his own space when you are gone. So you have the right idea and need to adapt it to cat training.

Your kitten wont show a sign but if you leave your litter box where it can see it then it will go to the litter box by itself. You could also show your cat where it is and just put him on the litter so it can get familiar with the litter box. Dont worry, cats will go on their own so you dont have to worry. God Bless you, your family and your cat.

CATS ARE INDEPENDENT YOU CANNOT LOCK THEM IN A CRATE OR CARRIER THAT IS CRUEL. YOU NEED TO GET MORE EDUCATED ON BEING A PET OWNER BEFORE YOU TAKE ON THE RESPONSIBILITY. GIVE THE CAT AWAY TO A GOOD HOME THAT LOVES ANIMALS.
