That depends on how much it costs. On the declared value, you'll have to pay 14% for tax and $5 for custom's handling. There is not any duty on hair straighteners. If the value of the item is less than $20, you don't have to pay anything. If it is marked as a gift and it is worth less than $60, you don't have to pay anything. I doubt a company will lie for you on the declaration form so plan on the first scenario. This is all if they ship USPS. UPS will be a lot more money since private couriers use their own customs clearing rather than the governments. You typically have to pay for their customs brokerage and tax in advance, as well. If sent via the mail and you are charged anything, the Canada Post rep will try and deliver to your door and will ask you for the amount. They do not have change! If you can't come up with the cash in exact change, you'll have to pick it up at your Canada Post counter location. There you may use debit, credit or cash.

Call your nearest customs office.
One caution, if the shipment comes via UPS, they,UPS will charge a brokerage fee that may be $20.00 or more. Try to have the shipper send it via the post office.

It depends on price and how it is shipped.
