If your watching something in 1080p but your tv supports 720p or 1080i does it still look good?

The only way you can watch 1080p right now is you are utilizing media from Blu-ray or HDDVD. All content that on TV is only being broadcast at 720p or 1080i. Eventually, network TV and cable channels will broadcast their channels in 1080p but it won't be for a few more years. As for now, 720p and 1080i both look great.

TV's that are native 720p or 1080i will typically not support a 1080p signal. This is something to notice, when you looking for a TV.

In theory, a 1080p signal will still look good on a 720p or 1080i tv because you are downscaling rather than upscaling. Upscaling is something you try to avoid in video.

Aside from BluRay and HDDVD, I thought there were no true 1080P sources out there. But yes, it will still look very good.

It should look fine. 1080p is just recomended.
