They put the ink under the skin, which hurts like hell so really think about it properly before you go get one. :]

The ink goes into your skin via a needle. As for how long it lasts, it really depends on how it was done and how you take care of it. Sun will fade your ink, sunblock=tattoos best friend. As I was told by my artist, the way tattoos are done today, or at least by him and those in his shop, they will not look like our grandpa's tatts. When they got those the tattooist went through enough layers of the skin for it to get into the blood stream and that is why they look like the ink has bled out. Now they go thru the first 2-3 layers of the skin therefore it will take a heck of a lot longer for them to do that if at all. Yes you will need to have them touched up everyso often however they will still look good when you get old. (My artist has tattoos that are over 10 years old and they still look fresh)

Hi, I know this one, before my boyfriend got his tattoo done i read up on it and apparantly the needle goes in through the epidermis (top layer of skin) deep down in to the dermis its self (deep in to the bottom layer of the skin) this then stains the skin underneath. This is what makes the tattoos permenant. Tattoos do tend to fade but never dissapear because of this. It tells you some where on the internet. Theres a diagram showing the needle going into the different skin. It you do a web search it may help if what i told you aint enough,

Well, as others have said, the ink goes deep enough into the skin where is doesn't shed away when you shed your skin. But ALSO, the molecules of ink are big enough so they stay where they are placed and can't be carried away by the circulatory system.

Lasering works by breaking down the molecules so that your body CAN get rid of the ink on it's own.

The needle used in making tattoos goes under a certain amount of skin, just deep enough so that the ink can be seen but can't be removed one the skin has healed over.

2/3 Layers under your skin.Technically you could skin yourself instead of expensive laser treatment for removal.Just remember the 2 odd bottles of whisky before you attempt such an operation.Art knifes would do the trick as long as there sharp enough or even a skinning tool.Just peel 2/4 layers of skin like your peeling an orange. You have 7 layers of skin to work with.Pain wise well probably not that much once your natural endorphins kick in plus loaded with alcohol your home free apart from a wee bit of scaring.

in theory if you could live until you were 200 years old any tattoo you had when you where 16 would be gone !
because we shed skin day by day / the amount shedded in 184 years should be sufficient enough to have a eradicated said tattoo ! But what the hell should i know it is 2 am in the morning and i have just came in from the night club and i am pissed so i dont really care ! good night everyone !!!!!! Merry Christmas .....

well i had a temporary tattoo on my bum i had id for 5 years and when it started to fade i got it redone as i liked it so much its supposed to be the layers of skin it goes through (like permanent make up) seemingly they go through 3 layers of skin (depends on the needle size) instead of 5 layers of skin
that's my opinion anyway (I've had a supposed temporary and a permanent ) I LOVE THEM

Because we have nine layers of skin and the ink from a tattoo penetrates five of them.

tattoo ink is injected beneath your upper skin layers, so it can't be washed off or peeled off (like when you peel after a sun burn)... the ink is also not supposed to go deep enough to be absorbed into your bloodstream so it just stays in that lower layer of skin for as long as you live (after you die too - until your skin wears off)

because people launch ink into your skin and make a picture with it and just like ink in a pen, it is unremovable. there is no eraser. U can actually have it like lazered off, but that really really really hurts and turns ur skin sort of white-ish because the lazer thingy ends up taking off some of your skin too. so it is like a pen, but even with hard scrubbing it doesn't come out. they just inject it too far into your lower skin and u cannot take it off.
