A salesman told me a TV would accept a 1080p signal thru its HDMI connection and this is not true at all.

He may not have been lying. If you connected a BlueRay player with native 1080P output to the tv via HDMI, then technically it has accepted the 1080P signal but may be down converting it to its native format. My understanding is that although there is still alot of speculation regarding HDMI's ability to tranport 1080P signals, the standards comittees have gone out of their way to confirm that all versions of HDMI support 1080P at 60hz. So he'd be kinda right about that too.

That is a normal problem with emerging technology, don't buy unless you already know what you want. Salesmen generally only have one thing on their mind and it's not to make sure you walk out empty handed.

Same thing happened to me when I brought a computer monitor. The salesman told me it was both digital and analog. When I got home, it was only analog. I thought I was ripped off. Yet when I read the directions closer, I found out it was also digital but I just need to buy a digital cable to hook the monitor up. So, what I'm trying to say is read the directions closely. You might have overlooked something. If not, return the TV or call up the store and ask to speak to a manager.
