There are so many misconceptions here it is unbelievable. Well, actually it is believable considering the fact that so many anti-drug campaigns will stop at nothing to make marijuana look like a horrible, evil drug.

First off to "lucynlynsey"...your response stuck out for some reason, I suppose you are just the lucky one I get to pick on. As far as weed goes...the chemicals themselves do not kill the brain cells. Any cell damage occurs when inhaling smoke due to lack of oxygen. The same effect can be had when smoking anything or even the simple act of holding ones breath for an extended period. Marijuana itself does NOT kill brain cells, it rather stimulates them and often will help with creativity. Which is why you will hear about song writers smoking when they are trying to write or painters smoking before starting a project, etc.
Weed is also definately not more addictive. As a matter of fact it's not PHYSICALLY addicting at all. It's a mental addiction that suck some people in. But you can obtain a mental addiction towards anything that you love or enjoy. Alcohol, however, is in fact physically addicting. If you are physically addicted to alcohol you may have withdrawl symptoms, this is not the case with marijuana.
And your point about it staying in your system longer is just ridiculous. Yes the THC can be detected in your body days (sometimes a couple of weeks, depending on your body fat percentage and how frequently you smoke) but you don't stay high and you are not effected by the drugs while they are still in your system.

Marijuana is definately the safer of the two. Of course they both due have risks. Marijuana sort of contradicts itself. It can both create cancer and prevent it. Typically people who smoke weed don't get lung cancer, it's usually a throat or mouth cancer. Though it is more rare to get cancer from smoking marijuana than from cigarettes.

Another interesting point is, too much alcohol = death but you can't OD on pot.

And a couple final notes. I can tell already that there is overwhelming number of anti-marijuana people on here and that my post will most likely not sway anyones views on here and it's sad that so many are so misinformed.

And finally, for my fellow pro-marijuana people. Let's not be ridiculous here, of course marijuana has been the direct cause of peoples deaths. We all know that a drug, even if it doesn't impair judgement near as much as alcohol, it certainly doesn't make us safe drivers. Though I understand that when high you don't usually want to go jump in a car and drive somewhere (unless it's your local Taco Bell LOL) it doesn't mean people haven't caused accidents due to being high.

But humans irresponsible actions doesn't mean that pot is bad or even that alcohol is bad. People just need to know how to make responsible decisions. If you aren't mature enough to handle alcohol or weed, don't due it. The End.

by far, the answer is marijuana.

contrary to popular belief, there has never been a documented case of death resulting from marijuana use, whether under the influence, or overdosing. however, there are thousands of alcohol related tragedies. alcohol poisoning, car crash, asphyxia.

also, if you read the AMA report on marijuana, it actually contains ANTI-cancerous properties, as well as there are sensors in the brain almost solely there for THC (the chemical that gets you high).

another misconception with marijuana is the myth about 1 joint being equal to 20 cigarettes. while they actually rank about the same healthywise, keep in mind that cigarettes are filtered while joints are not. and besides that, you don't have to smoke marijuana to get high from it. THC is fat and alcohol soluable, and there are many recipes out there that use marijuana, thus eliminating any health problems from smoking it.

also, just for the sake of argument, a hardcore stoner who quits smoking will be much better off and mainly only deal with crankiness for the first few days, vs. the alcoholic, who when going through withdrawl can hallucinate and have seizures. not to mention that any of the side-effects of marijuana use are only going on duration the period of being high. when you're not high, the effects, and even quitting, will have no long term effect.

i grew up in a small town in alaska, and it was divided by those who drank and those who smoked pot. let me tell you from experience that the drinkers end had a lot more problems (violence, loss of jobs, neglect of children, etc) than the stoners did.

so healthwise, marijuana is definitely safer, and also has far more clinical uses than alcohol ever will. but like anything, when used in moderation, you're not going to run into much trouble.

My parents aren't prudes about pot, and I know they did it in college, but they drew a very firm line about it at our house because of the legality of it. Even if you think the law is pointless and a shame, it's still the law. Cops busted a party my friend attended a while ago and arrested her for having pot, even though it was her first time, and she's an awesome girl, and it totally screwed up a future she worked hard for because she had to list it on college applications. So, I think parents have to be mindful of the example they are showing with their attitudes towards it. Drinking is legal. There's a huge difference between having one glass of wine at dinner - which my parents do - and getting plastered - which they have never done in my presence.

It has been a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time since I did either but I think in terms of health smoking pot is healthier than drinking. However, smoking pot is illegal so it could lead to much worse problems such as a criminal record.

Smoking pot.....ok so it may kill brain cells but drinking will give you a huge variety of health problems, and also pot does not (contrary to what people think) affect your judgment the way that alchohol does.....definantly pot is better for you....if you had to pick one.

pot is actually is safer because you have have much more control over yourself and your reaction rate is better. on the other hand it kills more brain cells. most car accidents are caused by drunk driving but when you drink in moderation like a beer every hour with plenty of food then it is much better than pot.

If I knew anything about either of those, I'd probably say that smoking pot is better. Not that I'm really qualified to differentiate between the two!

Haven't tried pot yet so I cannot answer for that one. But when I drank a few weeks and drank too much I did not feel too good. When my friends smoke they look like they feel alright

A lot more violence is caused by alcohol than by pot. And smoking pot has tremendous medicinal value for people with cancer and other chronic illness.
