I think Great Danes are the best but you have to have lots of room and know a lot about the breed. Whatever you decide...DO YOUR RESEARCH. I once thought an Italian Greyhound would be the coolest dog in the world to have...it was a nightmare. I had no idea what I was getting into. Not that it was a bad dog, I just didn't know what it took to have such a hyper dog. I wasn't prepared and working full time and being a single mom...I didn't have the time for him that he needed. I had to find him a better home. and I did. He is in a great home now and very happy and spoiled. I only suggest to you that you do your research and talk to other owners of the breed that can tell you all the good...and all the bad...and all that it takes to give the breed a good home. On the other hand...I have a cocker spaniel that is the best dog I have ever owned. She just has different needs than the Iggy had and I was able to accomodate her much easier. I have had her for 5 years now and have never looked back. I used to raise Great Danes and highly suggest them if you have the time, space, and money. The eat a lot :)

Good luck!!

I like to look at my own lifestyle and decide from there.
Do you have time for grooming, or need a pet with the least grooming possible?
Do you have loads of energy to spend playing with a hyper dog, or want a quiet and relaxed cuddler to sit by the fire with you?
will you be home often during the day? Gone all day? Never home (then please opt for a stuffed breed-wink, wink).
How much experience have you had with training a dog? some require extensive work, and others are very easy to train.
Will you be around kids? Cats? Other people? Alot of noise?
Do you have a house or apartment?

There are so many factors. Put together what qualities appeal to you in a pet, and then visit a pet shelter and show them your list. A respectable breeder is another person to consult. They can point out which pets will fit into your lifestyle, and it will be beneficial for you both.

(Personally-English Bulldog. Little grooming, can't hop the fence, good with kids and people, can't run too fast, and cute as all hell!)

It all depends on your needs and what kind of time you are willing to spend with a dog. All breeds have different needs and requirements, so do your research and find out what breed would be best for YOU.

Depends on what kind of dog you want. If you like large breeds, Labs and golden retrievers are wonderful dogs. If you want a cute, cuddly lap dog, you can't beat a Chihuahua.

no right breed just right owners who train, with patience and consistency ; no bad dog just unskilled owners. If you invest time, effort, training, exercise etc, you will have a great adult dog no matter the breed ; the best dog depends on you and your investment

Well it really depends on what breed you like?

On my point of view, Golden Retrievers and Black Labradors are the bestest ones!
