What has happened to good oldfashioned manners, ettiqute, men taking their hats off while in restaurants? While out to dinner with my 11 yr old son last night, I saw 9 grown men with baseball caps on, what happened to the rule of taking them off at the dinner table, especially when at a restaurant? Oh yeah, my son is being taught right, HIS WAS OFF.

W W D> Yes he sure does, he is a little gentleman, very proper when the time is right.
Most men if the restaurant does not have a hat rack, will place their hat on an empty chair beside them.

Good for you,for teaching your son proper manners ! A man should remove his hat any time he is indoors, not just at restaurants. You are right;no one seems to have any manners at all nowdays. It is sad that many people choose to act like barbarians.Perhaps their parents had no manners to teach them. You can't teach what you don't know.

I think that wearing hats at any dinner table, and especially in a restaurant, is very rude/impolite; unless they are in like a fast food place. I think that the men there should have taken the example of your 11 year old. He apparently has more manners than the grown men!

Not everybody considers it bad manners to have a hat on inside a building. I know it's supposed to be improper, but it was never explained to me why. In a way it just seems really old-fashioned. What exactly is the purpose behind this rule?

is it rude well at a restaurant i used to work at we had coat racks an hat racks when u entered. i feel its gross having a hat on the table top. if restaurants had racks to place the hat on then yes its impolite to have them on. but i know my dad will never put his hat on the floor. some men are uncomfortable with there hair line so they feel comfortable with a hat on. and unless a resturant has a rule of no hats well your out of luck

I think by the same token it's bad form for a restaurant to not have a hat rack available to receive your hat. If one is there I will use it.

Good for you. I remember when Bum Phillips was one of the top coaches in the NFL. He'd wear his cowboy hat on the sidelines, but not if he was playing in a domed stadium.
I bet your son opens doors for ladies, too.

My grandfather was crazy about that. If he saw someone "in the house", as it was called, with a hat on he'd knock it right off of them.

It is Right because it is rude if somebody put there hat on and stuffing them with their food. And elbows on the table it is rude to because you have to listen not like Bord Bord!

Your right it's rude. People are lazy or not taught to be respectful in public. Thank You for teaching your son manners.
Keep it up.
