Why would He let it happen from a non-Deistic point of view?

Robert K -> I think you misunderstood when I mentioned "Deism"- (Deism= belief in God as the Clockmaker who doesn't intervene in daily life), not talking about Deity ;)

IMHO...God is not all-powerful, in the sense that He isn't responsible for every tragedy, whether illness, war or disaster. The question is--are those events caused by forces of evil, or are they random...i.e. sh*t happens.

I don't know.

Sometimes all that God can do is to help after the fact. But don't blame Him for somehow looking the other way when so many were killed by terrorists on 9/11. I don't believe for a moment that this was His "judgment" of a supposedly "immoral" nation.

You think GOD just lets everything work by the laws HE set up and does not interfere. Interesting. GOD may actually do this - He has explained everything we, humanity, has to do to reach heaven, He sent Jesus as an example, so yes GOD may have placed everything on automatic, because it is all good, as GOD made it. Hmm good point.
Well according to many survivors GOD was there, how else did they survive - they will say, and show proof of where they were, and how they survived, as evidence GOD is still actively involved with each of us.
So GOD was NOT on vacation. GOD being GOD is actually beyond my understanding, but I know GOD is still involved with us as HE made us.
Why did GOD let 9/11 happen - is beyond my understanding also. Perhaps to wake us up so we restart to HELP each other (As we did for a few weeks) as we were told to do by Jesus, remember? He gave us 2 commandments to make it so simple we had a chance to actually remember them.

God was not on vacation. All things happen for the good of those who love him and so many people have come to Christ after 9/11 and everyone on that plane has gone to a better place, maybe God didn't want them to suffer anymore. God is never on vacation and though we may not know why he oes tings you just have to trust him full-heartedly.

God knew this was going to happen before Adam and Eve were created. He is never on vacation. He has a book telling about all the things that are going to happen in the last days. And we are here!!

How many bad things has God not allowed to happen? Im guessing since there are still billions of people living, loving and learning that there has been a LOT He has prevented. No one can choose between good and evil if they never experience evil.

it was simply a prophecy from the old testament coming true. Ishmael is the metaphor for the muslim religon.

(Genesis 16 verses 11-12, in which an angel is talking to Hagar) And the angel also said, "you are now pregnant and will give birth to a son. You are to name him Ishmael (which means "god hears"), for the lord has heard your cry of distress. This son of yours will be a wild man, as untamed as a donkey! he will raise his fist against everyone, and everyone against him. Yes, he will live in open hostility against all of his neighbors."

God was there. Even though it was a horrific, unimaginable tragedy, it could have been worse. There were so many more people that survived. There were so many people who escaped. There were people that missed the flight. There were people who overslept because tehy were watching the Giants on MNF. God was there, but unfortunately Satan was there too.

God allows things like that as a wake up sign. The world is full of evil people wanting to cause harm.

Bad things happen - even to God.
Christ told his disciples that they would be hated and persecuted. God allowed His disciples to be stoned to death, eaten alive in Roman arenas by Lions, burned alive as torches in Nero's gardens, and even to this day - some worser forms of suffering than imaginable. Those of us who believe and live in God, we face the flames through grace -knowing that when it is over, we will have reconciliation and peace. Those who reject God are not punished by Him for it - however, they remove themselves from His grace.

On 9/11, thousands of Americans died at the hands of terrorists.
Thousands of people die every day (some horrible deaths and many of them being "true" Christians in nations where it is illegal to be a Christian). So what makes 9/11 any different except that it happened on American soil?
Those who were in 9/11 and had faith, they received grace even in their suffering (just as did Christ in His).

In conjunction (because I know you are thinking it), those who choose not to believe in God do not face punishment by God for it. They are not sent to Hell by God. They simply remove themselves from His presence. And when the mortal death occurs for a "non-believer", that person is completely removed from God's presence. That is what true hell is - separation from God and "EVERYTHING" He has created. (that includes the air you breathe, all the things you have grown to love yet never recognized that it was all part of God all along). People choose to separate themselves from God, and He does not stop them from exercising their free-will.
