I mean, look, I am all for open discussion and understanding of all faiths. I generally believe that all faiths have a common goal to make humanity better. Now why are there these knuckleheads, who constantly go around intentionally misquoting the Quran/Bible/Torah/Any Holy Book? What is wrong with people? They say that religion is the cause of all the world's problems when it seems that they themselves are. And for you athiests. I totally respect your beliefs, so for those few of you who aren't so open-minded, why can't you respect ours?

That is a good question I guess we all fear or pick on in some way that which we fear. Many Americans do not know very much about Islam or its teachings(Same situation with Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism or basically anything that is being picked on no matter where it may be). Islam preaches peace and to never judge. it accepts people of all faiths and religion. or at least it is supposed to in a perfect world. however this isn't a perfect world. If you were to say go to Saudi Arabia there is agood possibility that you could hear something badsaid about perhaps Judaism. or anywhere else. So it just is a matter of the world becoming more open mided and learn to except what we don't know or undertsnad.

When you think about it, all religions get picked on. After 9/11 people who are islamic and go by the koran were targetted. However long ago, people who chose Christianity and the bible over Juddism an the Torah were executed. During the holocaust because of one man's hate, the jewish community suffered greatly. Some people are just plain old ignorant.

People pick on Islam because it is different, to begin with.
In my opinion, they are threatened by it because it is proving to be a little more civilized.
It is the epitome of what society should be doing, but doesn't want to accept.
The Muslims have managed to stand united for all these years, while Christians have been divided by their secluded ways (Baptist, Methodist, etc).
Sunnis and Shia's have lived together peacefully for thousands of years. Why is it now that they are fighting and having this so called 'civil war'? Think about it.
The unitedness of Muslims scares people because they have a lot of power. They actually have the potential and faith to do -whatever they want-. Not only do they have this mentalitiy, they have the means to do this:
Oil.

The problem with islam isn't the religion itself, but those ppl that claim to be following islam. No where does it say in islam to blow ppl up to peices. Espically "muslims" killing fellow muslims. Its like in Christianity, if christians followed that religion 100% there would be TonS of things diffrent in christian way of life. Its not the religion, its the followers taking what they want, leaving the important stuff out, and making crap up along the way.

Unfortunately, probably the only contact Americans have had with Islam is terrorism. Like any religion, it is not by nature a "bad" religion. It's just that some of it's followers have misinterpreted the Koran for their own selfish reasons.
