You Should really get a Golden Retreiver. Or if you can't afford it then go with the lab. Those are the top 2 dogs!

The best breed for a person to own, varies according to many things. There are alot of things to take into account before getting a dog,and it should be based on research into your lifestyle and living arrangements. It should not be based on what breed has been good for another person, you want the right dog for you,not someone else.
Things to take into account include but are not limited to.
1.How big will the dog be when full grown?
2.How much exercise does the breed require?
3.How much grooming does the breed require?
4.Does the dog do well in apartments and small houses,or does it need more room?
5.What is the breeds temperament? How well does it do around children, other people, strangers, and other animals?
6.What health problems is the breed prone to?
7.How smart and easy to train is the breed? Is it good for first time owners,or does it need a more experienced owner to train it properly?
The more research a person does before getting a dog,the greater the chance they will have a well trained lifelong companion, instead of an unruly dog that ends up in a shelter, because you had no idea what you were getting into when you got it.
The site below is a good place to start,it gives a list of all breeds, and will help you answer the above questions.

hot dogs...Armor hot dogs... ooops..you weren't singing, were you? (smile) I love smaller breeds. It depends on what kind of environment the animal will come into. If you have a larger area, get a larger animal. If the pet will be inside, you should go smaller in order to meet the needs of the puppy. Enjoy the newest member of the family!

labs are really nice but it depends on what your looking for like if you want a guard dog then get a German Shepard but if you just want a companion dog any dog would work. it really depends on what you need and what you can have. if you get a big dog make sure you have a big back yard.

a rescued dog, doesn't matter the breed. If you can get them past the baggage of the past they are forever grateful and are amazing dogs. I love my 2, they are the best dogs i have ever had and have had several people ask how I have such well behaved dogs, after the life they came from and are spoiled now, they know how good they have it

i like the smaller dogs. If you want a house dog then I suggest a smaller dog like a Schnauzer Terrier.

the best dog is the one that is trained from day one; you can't get tired, bored , distracted, you can't get tired of cleaning pee or poop; you can't get tired of playing, walking and exercising your dog; you can't put your dog's needs on the back burner; the best dog depends on you, your time investment, your training, your patience and your effort; put all that together and you have the best dog!
