Not everyone believes in eternal suffering. Hell has been a very disputed issue; from the early Gnostics who believe everyone in Hell will be redeemed after those in Heaven pray for them, and certain Muslims who believe Hell is just a temporary "cleansing" process, to certain Christians and Muslims who believe all non-believers will suffer eternally.
There are, however, many compromises. Jehovah's Witnesses, as well as many Jews and Unitarian Christians do not believe in Hell as anything other than eternal death--that is, ceasing to exist.
Furthermore, many Jews and even some Christians and Muslims believe that being good and acting moral (and not condemning God or blaspheming) might be enough to be saved. Notice, (1) the New Testament's praise of the meek and the poor (those who would not condemn God or blasphemy*), and (2) that three of the New Testament Gospels--Matthew, Mark and Luke--seem to preach the importance of morality and being good.
*If you are already a good person and morally upright, even if you do not believe in God, respect Him and those who believe in Him. Be reserved in your criticisms and do not blasphemy nor condemn.

Where do you get the notion that you will suffer eternal torment
in some firey hell?It sure does'nt say that in the Bible! You cant
listen to these false teachers that preach such nonsense.Study
the Bible!!!!!! If you cant understand it,Get a qualified person to
study it with you.I would highly recommend one of Jehovahs Wit-
nesses, they really know and understand the Scriptures. They are
truly Gods people. and if you really have a desire to learn the truth
and apply it in your life, you cant go wrong with Jehovahs people.

There is NO morality to it. If you look at the things one is expected to 'believe' and cross check with the facts in evidence it just does not make any sense.
Unfortunately once a person is exposed to and influenced by this sad theory they are unable to make reasoned and objective judgements. I think it is a self induced hypnosos that happens.
I know many will not want to believe it but religions are cults. Many of them do great harm too.
http://www.apologeticsindex.org/
this is a well reasoned site that lists many of the cults and cult like abusive sects.
Most religions fall in this category.

What you have here is a religious answer to a spiritual question. Only the human element with its finite perspectives and desire to control, would offer such a ridiculous fantasy to preserve a profitable ideal. You've answered your own question.

I dont guess that we can grasp what Holiness is when we ourselves are not. I dont think many of us "like" the concept of Hell... I know I dont. But I also know (believe) that we were given a very easy way to avoid it. Through repentance and faith in Christ's sacrifice.
The way I see it, it isnt that God will say "I sentence you to eternity of pain and suffering!" But that He will completely remove Himself from those who refuse to believe Him. God is often reffered to as "Light" and often reffers to sin as darkness. What is darkness but the absence of light? I believe that God is with us here but not in full, this is why there are good and bad things. When He removes Himself, there will only be bad things. And really, He has waited a long long time to remove Himself.

The only way you can justify that morality is to accept it as a belief which can be rejected.

After this life, we begin a eternal life.
God has given us the choice of where we want to spend it.
It is up to us to make the choice!

Come judgment ask God to justify.
There is no eternal suffering but eternal death, the second death.

It may not seem "nice" but it is just. God is a righteous God who always does what is fair and right. All people have been redeemed by Christ, and saved from this suffering, but there are still people who blantly reject His free gift. When they reject His gift, they refuse the Heaven which awaits them, and condemn themselves to eternal suffering.
