He should not be shedding in the winter, It's the summer that they tend to shed more. If he is shedding more than he usually does, he may be ill.
Our dog started shedding badly also. We took him to the vet and he was diagnosed with cancer. he had no other symptoms.
Also check his coat to see if he has a rash, or dry flaking skin, he may require medication. Stop bathing him it will actually make him shed more. and dry his skin. you remove essential oils bathing them.

As far as I know, bathing your dog every two weeks doesn't really have an effect on your dog's shedding problem. If anything, it would actually probably help reduce the shedding if you towel dry and brush him properly afterward. If it is a dry skin problem, try bathing him with an oatmeal shampoo. For the shedding only though, I suggest brushing his coat out at least once a week and maybe looking into some of the "med" -like products available for excessive shedding that can be found at a local pet store such as Petsmart or Petco.

You can get a curry brush. It is a rubber brush with rubber tips. It seems to real grab the loose dead coat well. I suggest maybe bathing once a month if you must. But like everyone else mentioned, brush!. You might want to take your lab to a local groomer and get a good grooming. The blower that they use will also help loosen up the old dead coat. He might shed a bit more afterwards, but this will stop after a few days. Get yourself a good comb, slicker brush and a rubber curry brush. Brush everyday for 10 mins. This will help I promise. P.S> Never cut a labs coat !! Especially shaving !! This will damage the coat and may grow back thicker and fuzzier, and may not shed properly there after.

Bathing your dog every 2 weeks should not effect his shedding. Yet for the other poster sakes I will suggest using conditioner so the dogs skin wont dry out. Your dog may have a low amount of vitamins in body. When cold weather sets in they use more vitamins to keep their bodies healthy in the cold. Even if it is a inside pet. This can cause your dog to shed in extreme amounts. I would suggest talking to your vet and if this is the case they will tell you what vitamins will decrease the shedding. Dogs usually dont really shed in the winter months. Because they need their coats to stay warm (even if it is an inside dog, its instinct) Good Luck hope this helps.

brush and brush often. dogs have a summer coat they have to shed so that they can have the winter coat. Try the shedex treatment. it is a special conditioner and then a special brush for the under coat. I have 2 short haired dogs, but was told this works w/ long hair

The bathing may be doing more harm than good. Frequent bathing is never advisable. Instead, you could opt for bath wipes designed for dogs at a local pet supply store, or Wal-Mart even carries them. Regular and vigorous brushing outside may help get rid of any loose hair that might fall out inside the house.
