Do they really contain 20g of protein and 300 calories or is that false advertising?

As opposed to what? If you eat properly, emphasizing real foods, protein bars have little value, and usually include lots of things, like sugar and questionable additives, that detract from whatever food value may be in them. Probably their worst attribute, is that they, in the advertising sense, represent a sort of methadone for candy bars, and usually sit on the same shelf. This encourages us to put too much value in snacks, both emotional and in calorie consumption, taking us away from a balanced and healthy way of eating.
