I have final exam on 14th and I have been trying to read since yesterdaay. I am not able to concentrate and read. I talked to friends, surfed on internet for the whole day. Tried to read several times but couldn't read. What should I do?

Something within you is trying to distract from 'focusing' on the real priority, and also trying to 'convince' you that it is not a priority..... just spend a few minutes of honest introspection, allowing the mind the freedom to 'spill out' the contents, without negating or supporting it, and then no need to 'concentrate' (concentration drains energy).... just love the exams, like you love reading(focused,) a beautiful novel(cover to cover , end to end, in one sitting, feeling just the physical strain on body and eyes) , and then you will find performance at the exams to be 'silk-smooth' and excellent !

I just finished finals and I have dry periods just like what your going through and sometimes it is hard to break. You can try several things: if you have a home foot spa, relax your feet and read; drink a cup of hot tea, coffee, latte (whatever) and sit at table; go to your loca bookstore (barnes & noble, books-a-million, etc.) sit in the large leather chairs and read (they usually have coffee shops inside), and depending on where you are if it's not too cold, go to a park and find a bench. I have even had a massage and then took a lite nap and got up to read.

Find some place that is quiet, where you can be alone. Leave your cell phone, computer, IPod, etc. at home so you are unable to fiddle with them instead of reading. Take along a notebook and pen/pencil and when you feel your mind start to wander, jot down what you are thinking about so you can revisit it later (this is suggested for people who go to bed with a "restless mind"). After you jot down your thoughts, your mind should be pretty close to clear....then begin to read!

During Freshmen Orientation for college, a professor told us to find our own place on campus where we feel we will get the most work accomplished and keep it a secret. By doing this, it eliminates the number of friends who "stop by" to visit leading to distractions.

Good luck on your finals!

one of the things that i have read somewhere, is that you should study for a half an hour, take a ten minute break and then another half an hour studying, and so forth

Rewrite all of your notes and make your own review sheet. It keeps you busy so you won't get bored and want to go talk to your friends.
