What do you do to understand God?

I started out exploring several paths.. religions, philosophies, biographies... went to meetings and read many books. Then I started to give Christianity a try by reading the Bible and attending several different kinds of churches.

Eventually, you come to the point that Jesus is who the Bible says He is, and that He did what it said, or He was just another enlightened person who lived a couple thousand years ago. That is where that step of "faith" came in... to believe or not to believe. I decided to give it a try, figuring I could always go back if I didn't like what I found.

I have found, as millions of others, that there is a living God, alive and real. All the other things were attempts to reach Him, but in Christianity, I found that God is indeed reaching and waiting for us. What I found was a real and dynamic relationship with Him. I am actively learning more and loving Him more everyday.

I was not disappointed for taking that step of faith, having found a life beyond anything that I could ever have imagined. I have had no desire to "go back". Sure, there was some rethinking of some of my old beliefs and philosophy. I realized that all those things that I thought were important before pale to what I have found in Him. His love is so amazing... He is an awesome God, deserving of our love, honor and our praise.

May you find the joy I have found in the journey. May God bless you.

Read the Bible. That is the one place to go to better understand God.
If you're having trouble understanding it, I recommend picking up a good commentary from a Christian publishing house to help guide you through. The people that have written them have spent years studying the Scriptures and the early church fathers' works, so they can be very useful.
God bless!

The way I understand God is by observing the world around me, how nature works, how humanity evolved by reading history books, how societies relate to each other, basically the human condition. We are made from GOD so the sooner we understand ourselves the sooner we will understand GOD.

"O My brother!

When a true seeker determineth to take the step of search in the path leading unto the knowledge of the Ancient of Days, he must, before all else, cleanse his heart, which is the seat of the revelation of the inner mysteries of God, from the obscuring dust of all acquired knowledge, and the allusions of the embodiments of satanic fancy.

... He must so cleanse his heart that no remnant of either love or hate may linger therein, lest that love blindly incline him to error, or that hate repel him away from the truth. Even as thou dost witness in this Day how most of the people, because of such love and hate, are bereft of the immortal Face, have strayed far from the Embodiments of the Divine mysteries, and, shepherdless, are roaming through the wilderness of oblivion and error." -Baha'u'llah

i go to church and i ask questions. i also read different religion books. but the most important thing you can do to better understand him is to really open your heart completely to him and pray for the wisdom to understand. i promise if your serious about wanting to understand him then pray to him and ask. he says ask and you shall receive. but you also have to remember that doesn't mean you will receive it right then and there. i really hopes this helps you good luck, and GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

read the bible, pray to Him wanting a better understanding of who He is and what He desires of my life and then be still to hear from Him.
He is faithful to reveal Himself to those who are seeking and desiring a relationship with Him.
