Gently brush his teeth, gums and tongue! A pea sized amount of toothpaste is recommended. If this persists it could be a sign of infection. See his pediatrician.

if you all, meaning the family has been ill for the past 2-3 weeks then either a really bad cold making its rounds among the family members or a case of the flu with either one having the symptons of congestion and phlegm chest and throat and could also be having stuffy nose-all could be the cause of the sour breath and if any vomitting then that would explain it even more. Childen his age also tend to get ear infections---------any infection,phlegm-congestion anywhere can cause sour breath.Am sure the child has its teeth brushed and checkups and tooth/gum problems-infection can be ruled out. First I'd thoroughlynbut gently brush the child's teeth and tongue for its actually the tongue that harbors the most bad breath germs. The child may be too young to tolerate the sting of mouth wash BUT you can take a tablespoon of Brown Vinegar and dilute it with a 2/3cup of warm water and unless for some reason cannot take honey-dissolve 1 to 2 teaspoons of honey for will sweeten the vinegar and will have the child be more accepting than the sour taste of vinegar and have the child gargle several times for will kill any bacteria in the throat and after gargled approx 3-4 spitting it out for do not want to swallow any bacteria, then severla times 2-3 times have the 2yr old swish the vinegar around in the mouth and keep it in the mouth for a couple of seconds so can kill germs, bacteria in the mouth thereby getting rid of the sour smell. Finish by rinsing the mouth with plain water several times so no vinegar stays on the tooth enamel. The vinegar honey misture will also loosen congestion in the chest/throat which will speed healing. Vinegar has been used since th time of the Romans as a natural antiseptic,to kill bacteria and viruses in scrapes and wounds and also used to clean with-to kill viruses esp back whent he Plague of the Black death killed so many-but those who used vinegar did manage to survive. Please make sure the 2y old can take honey-can't remember as to what age they cannot

for a child to have bad breath, after you have had illness in the family could mean the 2 year old needs to see a Dr, as throat problems may be the culprit. seek medical advice and best of luck- hope the little one feels better soon.

My child gets a particular breath odor when she gets strep. She never gets a sore throat, only an upset stomach, but the test comes back positive every time I detect that odor. You may want to check that out.

If the kid is really stuffy, you may want him checked for a sinus infection. If he is having stomach problems, that could cause bad breath too. Last but not least, consider tooth decay.

They can get really bad breath if they've got a sinus infection or even a foreign object stuck up their nose. Sounds like it's time for the peditrician either way. Good luck to you!

Any kind of illness will sometimes cause bad breath. Just make sure his teeth are brushed (and his tounge if you can...but don't make him gag!) It should go away in a few days.
